Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write
As the technology director for the district, I do not regularly use Google Read&Write, but I manage the renewals and oversee the use of it in the district. This has been a great too for many of our special needs students to assist them in writing documents and other course work. The fact that this tool works on a variety of devices is another benefit to having Read&Write in our district.
Pros
- talk&type
- prediction
- text to speech
- highlighting
Cons
- accuracy of voice to text can always be made more accurate
- add a thesaurus tool
- having so many features available in 1 tool limits the need to purchase multiple products
- more efficient use for students when every tool is available in 1 toolbar
- Tool can be used by all students and staff members as well
This has not impacted me directly, but Read&Write has becoming a reliable tool for our special education department to recommend to students in need. While directly benefiting special education students, it is often recommended for students that struggle to type at a certain pace and need help with certain words, staying focused, or need translation.
Read&Write is now recommended for any student with an IEP. It has become a reliable resource to use and share.
