Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write
My district has included Read&Write on every student computer to provide universal access. The program strengthens writing, supports reading comprehension, helps students keep track of notes, and even helps English learners with English vocabulary. It also allows for our students with special needs to use the tools while still feeling like they fit in with their peers. My own daughter, who has dyslexia, went from writing one sentence with a sentence starter, to writing a 5 paragraph essay within a week of learning to use Read&Write. I love this program and would recommend it to everyone!
Pros
- Speech to text
- Text to speech
- Line Reader
- Visual dictionary
Cons
- Lower the price for individual families that want to use it
- Make the program work when offline as well
- Using it to leave verbal notes on student work is confusing.
- Unfortunately, we have struggled to roll this program out in a way that gets teachers excited, so I don't have a lot of data here.
I guess I don't understand this question.
My daughter, who has severe dyslexia, used to take up to half an hour to write a sentence with a sentence starter, and her letters would be a combination of capital and lowercase letters throughout the words. With the help of Read&Write, my daughter is now able to write 5 paragraph essays and expand her knowledge of writing skills thanks to Read&Write. Now, her Dyslexia doesn't hold her back in writing.
I have not seen the district use any similar products.
