We are currently subscribing to Business Advisor, and it helps us tremendously to call any time during business hours and have an initial discussion regarding labor law before contacting our labor law attorney. Sometimes, we do not need to contact our labor law attorney as the advisor directs us to sites on the internet where the law is found. Save time not having to look it up, and time is money. We also use the Employee handbook, and updating it according to newly implemented labor law is helpful. This is even more helpful because they are specific to the labor law in California, where there are always "Special" laws.
We use ADP it to process payroll. We do not have to calculate payroll manually or submit quarterly payroll tax returns. By paying ADP to submit our quarterly tax returns, we take the responsibility of submitting the returns by the due date, away from us and place it on ADP. They keep up with all the new tax laws, so we can focus on our industry work of selling insurance instead of learning, tax labor law. I also like that they email us updates on new and changing employee labor and tax laws.
Pros
- Payroll calculation of Vacation time, Sick time, etc.
- History of employee, able to run reports on hours worked and earned wages, for specific periods.
- We are able to contact a live person for assistance when we cannot find what we need in RUN.
Cons
- Report can be more user friendly to find the report I need.
- If I could see time off for sick time or vacation time on a calendar that would be helpful.
- Manual payroll check, better check stub to attach to manual in-house check given to employee.
- The payroll tax service eliminates the exposure penalties if we do them and make a mistake.
- Do not have to reconcile the Payroll Bank Account for the the checks issued to employees. We just need to reconcile the transaction from ADP for tax and net check amounts.
- The history of employees is kept on the ADP portal, and we do not have to manage to keep that updated.
- Employees can access their records, saving us time not having to look up things for them.
It saves us time when employees can look up information they need, and we do not have to take the time to do it for them. They can do it on their own time at home and not be on our time clock, so they can continue to be productive at work. It is also beneficial to the employee knowing they may like it so they can keep questions or information confidential and not have to ask us.
I have not used the mobile app at all.
ADP has been around for a long time, and in that time, they have fine-tuned the payroll processing function. Since ADP is a larger company than most, they are able to offer more features and have more contacts and leverage due to their larger company size. Confidence in the company staying in business. A company can only provide and make good on its guarantee if it is still in business when you need the guarantee.
