Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Sage is our primary accounting software. It is used daily by the accounting team and in a limited capacity by other department managers. It is used for financial reporting and budgeting.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Customize reports.
Drill down into transactions.
Internal controls.

Cons

Wish there was the ability to close a period for certain users only.
Wish there was integration with point of sale systems for retail.
Electronic payments.

Return on Investment

Improved reporting.
Simpler budget management.
Ability to slice and dice.

Sage Intacct Automation

Our organization used automated approval processes for Accounts Payable which benefited the internal controls structure.

Sage Intacct Extensibility

We did not use any of these more advanced modules.

Sage Intacct is a great product for nonprofits. The ability to “slice and dice” information using multiple dimensions beats other products I’ve used, namely QB and QBO. Once I learned how to use it I really enjoyed it. However, learning it on the job was tough and I found that the support was lacking (for me). It’s an expensive investment and continuing training on it is an additional expense every year.

I would recommend it for complex organizations (multiple departments, projects, funding sources) who have outgrown their current software and have the financial resources to invest.
