Overall Satisfaction with SAP Analytics Cloud

It's being used:

1 - As a SAP BI consultants company, we use it to explore the functionalities and to be able to implement it for our customers
2 - As a BI tool to explore our own SAP Buniess By Design data and some Excel files (Financial data, timesheet)

Pros

  • Stories are quite easy to develop witout technical knowledge
  • Generating a simple model is very straightforward
  • Sharing and collaborating is very convenient

Cons

  • Updating an existing model is very painful. It's not Agile at all since we need to rebuild it whenever we need to add a new column, for instance.
  • Updating a transformation in a model lead to lose the calculated measures.
  • It is not possible to update a model if a Public Dimension has been used in it.
  • Comparing with other BI Solutions, I think we need more formulas in Transformations Area and Stories Developments.
SAC BI Reporting is affordable, especially for companies with a limited IT budget. It is "easy" to integrate it with the ERP.
Many options of connectivity but not enough yet for my needs or some solutions but I am not aware of them.
Connecting to SAP Systems implies to install either the CORS (Live) or Hana Cloud Connector (import) and these installations can be painful (for instance, into SAP HANA 1503 for a customer, we had a lot of unexpected issues).
I have been surprised to see that it's not possible to address directly as a BW provider. We need to go through a query.
Many issues when trying to connect to some systems or extract data but no clue as to why. The error management in SAC or Chrome does not give a lot of explicit messages and the Source System often does not log anything. It's very confusing.
I think it's ok but I don't use it often. It is sure better than nothing and it is integrated in the system.
It is well suited for simple design, stable models, business needs already defined with few changes to be process. It is not convenient for complex rules because of the lack of formulas or if the model needs a lot of transformation and frequent changes or if the business rules are going to change frequently.
