Overall Satisfaction with SAP Build
We have used SAP Build to automate some specific processes. We have also used the SAP Build Automation service to create workflows outside of the Core ERP, which I believe has better functionalities than what we had in our ERP, and to use Robotic Process Automation bots.
Pros
- Low Code Mobile app creation.
- Workflows
- Robotic Process Automation.
Cons
- Comparing to other RPA Tools, SAP Build automation lacks enough user guidance.
- Licensing is a little bit confusing.
- From a technical perspective, older versions of the automation part are not always stable, but the other services (workflow, business rules, apps, etc.) are much more stable.
- SAP Build significantly reduces the effort on the integration side compared to other LCNC platforms.
- From a licensing perspective, the platform can kind of lock you in, but that's also true for other cloud platforms as well.
- Creating an app that fully works with your ERP (especially if you have S4HANA as the ERP System) is fast. It enables quick prototyping.
Yes, indeed. We have integrated SAP Build with the SAP ERP system. It was already an S4HANA system, so we benefited greatly from creating CDS Views, exposing APIs from ERP, and reusing these APIs in SAP Build. In addition, we have also used other services in the SAP Business Technology Platform, like SAP Document Services and Integration Suite.
First, I think the workflow capabilities that came with SAP Build Process Automation are much better than what we had in SAP S4HANA Flexible Workflow. Beyond that, we have benefited from the service by triggering Robotic Process Automation bots in some simple scenarios. However, I realize that if the requirements are complicated, it might be better to explore other RPA Tools. But in the end, the simple processes worked fine.
We are also using Uipath for RPA automation; I believe it works better for complex processes than SAP Build, but its functionalities are limited to RPA. SAP Build also offers functionalities around Workflow, which is lacking in Uipath. So, it is still OK in processes like getting some information from your SAP ERP system and triggering simple automation like sending emails, producing Excel files, etc.
