Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform
SAP Business Technology Platform is our standard cloud provider when ever a custom cloud solution related to our SAP Backend has to be created. From runtime over special services up to 3rd party solutions provided via SAP Business Technology Platform, we are fulfilling a lot of use cases utilizing SAP Business Technology Platform as our standard.
Pros
- Services are operated by SAP with outstanding support, always giving a helping hand even if it is custom code or solution provided on the platform
- Services are easily connectable via standard approach to our backend SAP systems in SAP Rise/HEC
- Secure access using identities from our existing identity management helping us to safeguard data security from within SAP systems up to custom frontend applications
Cons
- Password and secret management is not usable
- CI/CD capability using common market DevOps stacks would highly appreciated
- Opening logging for common tools on the market instead of forcing the usage of CloudALM
- Speed up in creating SAP extensions
- Support in innovative thinking and mindset change towards cloud native
- Freeing up people in operations to work for business problems instead of it operations

- Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Google Cloud Run
SAP Business Technology Platform is easily connectable using standard solutions to the onpremise backend SAP systems. Services can be linked with each other and with SAP systems in a managed and secure way, while with the other products getting the data, access and networking done is cumbersome. Also we can make sure to have all cloud environments in the same region using the multi cloud approach wich reduces latency problems.

As we are using BTP to provided digital services for collaboration and microservices driven special purpose services from shops to vessels, from supplier to customers, BTP is used in 360° of our digital services and processes
6 - We have implemented a Cloud Center of Excellence to support internal usage of BTP. This is done by a virtual team from former SAP Basis, IT Architects and DevOps engeneers. Special role in this team is FinOps role from it controlling for budget management. We are running the same structure for all hypervisors we are using.

Yes - We replaced SAP PO due to end of maintenance with SAP Integration Suite while using additional features like API Management and Advanced Evenemesh.
as we need to work with SAP data from core systems, using a other product is not an option for us.

Change management was a major issue with the implementation - upskilling of people that worked in classical SAP environment (SAP Basis) is very hard. The full understanding of what cloud native means and taking responsiblity in the shared model is hard to train and bring into an accepted mode for employees working in IT for ages.
- SAP API access for onpremise environment using principal propagation
- streamlining several IAS platforms provided by SAP for authentication
- SAP Cloud ALM is useless to gather insights and troubleshoot, while other monitoring solutions like datadog are blocked or activily hindered

All help regardings SAP BTP Kyma is exceptional and outstanding. Solutions are provided extrem quickly with very good explanations and step by step guides to circumvent or self services solutions.

- SAP BTP Kyma is a outstanding managed kubernetes enviroment
- having entitlements available to steer usage of services
- using APIs for 3rd party integration
- getting deployment parameters for services that where installed in the past
- cost management does not gain full insights, only if using API access
- different levels of access, roles and authentication especially with Cloud Foundry
