Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3

I used it for hosting small critical servers for a production environment. It is not used by other departments. We had a cooling problem back then in our data center and Scale Computing has a small footprint and generates less heat compared to Dell servers.

Pros

  • Easy to create VM and install OS.
  • Storage is already clustered and ready to be used.
  • Excellent support tools. I email the problem and they take it from there.

Cons

  • Major firmware upgrade may require shutting down all VMs.
  • Backup not supported by Netbackup.
I can always count on the support team to help me and they kept me in the loop.
  • We met our objectives by using HC3 to resolve our data center cooling problem back then.
Cloud based applications
Small foot print area for servers and minimum downtime. The cluster configuration will be a plus for company with part time system administrator.

Thanks for writing your review! In our follow up discussion, the major upgrade you referenced was from ICOS (4.x) to HyperCore (5.x). This was indeed a major release as we rewrote the entire storage layer (SCRIBE) to allow for things like rolling upgrades. We did offer a swing cluster to customers who wanted to retrofit their existing cluster with little to no downtime, but an in-place upgrade was not supported. Since the 5.x upgrade in 2014, all HyperCore updates have been rolling with no requirement of downtime.
