Scale HC3 - Powerful and Scalable Virtualization in a Compact Form Factor
Score 10 out of 10
Vetted Review
Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3
We used it for clients to cost effectively consolidate storage and server workloads to a 3U server footprint with an easy to use management interface. By including storage, networking and compute in a redundant platform we have substantially increased our resiliency and recoverability. We have implemented Scale's offsite disaster recovery as well which efficiently replicates data to a separate data center for easy recovery should the need arise.
Pros
- Cost reduction for virtualized workloads.
- Consolidates storage and networking.
- Simplifies management of virtual servers.
- Efficient backup and disaster recovery.
Cons
- The management interface could provide more granular configuration options.
- Monitoring and alerting for replication and snapshots needs improvement.
- Need easier quoting capabilities for partners.
We run applications such as domain controllers, remote desktop, SQL Servers and line of business applications. Scale allows us to provide the resources these applications need to run and allows us to optimize utilization of compute on our virtual servers. To add additional resources we can purchase additional nodes to add CPU, Storage and RAM with relative ease.
- Scale has a positive impact on ROI due to savings versus competing virtualization platforms with expensive licensing.
- Scale's storage capabilities allow us to optimize storage costs versus traditional server architecture.
- Support and warranty from one vendor is easier to manage and less costly then competing brands.
We have used VMWare and Simplivity platforms for virtualization and hyperconverged. Scale offers significantly lower licensing costs then VMWare and the platform is much easier to configure and manage then Simplivity. For storage we have used EMC and Equallogic. Scale is less expensive and performs very well in comparison.
