Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3

We are using Scale Computing HC3 nodes at each plant to decrease our physical server count and increase our efficiency of hardware use. We are using Scale nodes at all locations throughout our company. The clusters make it much easier for our small IT department to handle hardware downtime and maintenance.
  • Simplicity is the number one priority for us. It's very simple to spin up a virtual machine and have it up and running quickly.
  • Customer support has been fantastic. When we have an issue, usually Scale contacts us before we even realize there is some sort of issue going on.
  • Setting up and installation has also been very simple. In the past, we tried traditional 3-2-1 virtual infrastructure but having storage, networking, and compute tied together has made it much easier for our IT department to be able to deploy new items in a timely manner.
  • There are times when the alerts can be a little vague if you don't contact customer support to get a clarification of what might be wrong.
  • I would like to see some integrated backup support at some time, and not have to use a third-party agent on each virtual machine.
So far we have had nothing but excellent support on every issue we have encountered in our two years of running Scale in our company. If you call support, you usually get someone on the phone within a few minutes of hold time, which is a big win for us.
Recently we started testing Leostream on our nodes in hopes of replacing Remote Desktop Server usage. We are very excited by the ability to spin up multiple desktop machines off of one image that our users can remote into and run in house software without having to build, install, and license a Windows RDS machine.
  • The biggest ROI for us has been time. We have saved so much wasted time by cutting down on replacing multiple physical servers with more hardware to maintain.
  • We also have saved quite a bit of money by not having to buy lots of new hardware. Scale nodes make it much easier for us to really take advantage of and allocate resources more efficiently than physical servers ever did.
In our situation, Scale Computing has been an excellent fit for our network. Being a medium-sized company with a small IT department, we have been able to leverage the ease of use to greatly speed up our ability to react to new ideas, and knowing that our virtual machines are running on a solid platform makes everyone feel better about our hardware on the backend. We are much less concerned with single points of failure in the server room.
