Overall Satisfaction with Sketch

We use Sketch as a digital product design tool for designing and wireframing UI interfaces from low fidelity through to high fidelity. We have used it to present prototypes to stakeholders for approval as well as giving our development teams detailed visuals, exported assets and specifications fro delivery. Whilst the basics can be picked up quite easily there it a steep learning curve for more complex tasks.

Pros

  • Wireframing
  • Hi-fidelity digital design
  • Prototypes

Cons

  • In platform collaboration with colleagues
  • Licencing can be expensive when sharing
  • Text formating can be limitied
  • Allows Dev teams to see what the intended digital product should look like, increasing quality
  • Good for showing working prototypes speeding up delivery
  • Help bridge the gap between design and development teams improving time to market.
It's quite easy to pick up and you can see with the tool's interface and menus that other more popular services such as Figma have copied and taken further. There is a steeper learning curve for more complex tasks though and some of the finite details like text rendering and editing text can be clunky.
In terms of comparing Sketch with some of it's competitors, I would say that Sketch falls behind Figma due to the fact that it doesn't not have the power of inline collaboration that Figma has developed. It's also not quite as powerful as Axure in terms of providing a usable prototype similar in feel to a real site or app. It is a good all-rounder through.

Do you think Sketch delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Sketch's feature set?

No

Did Sketch live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Sketch go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Sketch again?

No

Not everyone in our organisation can use Sketch because it is designed to be an Apple Macintosh operating system only tool. This can be restrictive when some colleague want to collaborate on copy edits or light design amendments. It does balance some of the hi-fidelity vector editing really well though providing what Adobe Illustrator can but in a development context.
