Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor
Currently our Network Operations and Network Support departments use NPM to monitor our networking devices, report on historical performance, and manage and back up device configurations.
- Provides a single source for monitoring, managing, troubleshooting, and backup.
- Supports a wide range of vendors and equipment.
- Can be as simple or as detailed as you want to configure it.
- Licensing could be more straightforward. It seems like there are too many separate products.
- Once you start making use of a lot of features it gets more complicated to manage.
- Server/SQL requirements increase quickly as you scale up.
- It has reduced the amount of time it takes to manage our devices by having a single place for monitoring, troubleshooting, and backing up.
- The multiple views for different users allows us to tailor it to users based on role, so the help desk gets a simplified view while network engineers get all the details and configs.
- As we have increased the number of features we use and scaled it out to more devices, the product maintenance has necessarily grown more complex. Having a dedicated owner to manage it has helped tremendously.
NPM offers many more features and options, and goes much deeper. WhatsUp Gold is good if want to keep things simpler, but as our needs grew more complex it couldn't match the features and options of NPM.
