Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Pingdom

We use SolarWinds Pingdom to monitor our production environments in real-time to detect and log any downtime that may occur, we also use the integration with OpsGenie to page our team should a downtime event go over a threshold we have specified. Thanks to SolarWinds Pingdom we are able to react much faster to downtime incidents and typically resolve these problems before our customers have noticed there may be a problem.
  • Monitoring of resources, in particular configuring a specific endpoint
  • Reasonably priced
  • Easy to use interface
  • Support is lackluster and can be slow to respond.
  • Some features of their API are broken and still have not been fixed (Updating maintenance windows).
  • The product has enabled us to provide a better service to our customers, resulting in happier customers who are more likely to purchase more of our software bundles.
We have looked into using New Relic Synthetics to achieve the same results we are achieving with Pingdom, ultimately Pingdom is significantly cheaper for essentially the same functionality.
The support is rather basic and unfortunately is not at the same level we have experienced from other vendors, although the interactions with SolarWinds Pingdom support have always been very professional, and they have tried their best to help resolve our problems.

Overall, I feel SolarWinds Pingdom is a great product at a very reasonable price, it does it's job fairly well and for the most part we are happy with the product and will continue to use it to monitor our production workloads to ensure we meet SLAs and maintain the highest uptime possible for our customers. The integration with OpsGenie greatly helps with this as we can be paged 24/7 should a downtime event be encountered. Unfortunately, support for this product is not the best, and we have had some back and forth discussions regarding some bugs in their API, as we have a large number of workloads being monitored, not being able to use an API to maintain all these workloads is a massive bottleneck. Thankfully for the most part, the API is good and we have been able to workaround this issue, but it would be nice if the Support was more attentive and the problem we encountered was resolved.
