Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Pingdom

We were suffering from website outages, so deployed Pingdom to alert us as to the frequency and times this was happening.

It was a bit of an eye-opener, as it turns out our website was going down a lot more often than we were aware. By comparing the Pingdom alerts to our firewall and webserver logs, we were able to track down the cause of our issue.
  • Instant alerts
  • Weekly reports
  • Alerts when device is back online
  • Testing of individual webpages
  • Handling other types of webpage e.g. a *.esp page
  • Ability to add users directly, rather than via my.solarwinds.cloud
  • Sending of additional details when a device is down e.g. a screenshot of the webpage error
  • Increased website uptime
  • Reduced cost when investigating outages
  • Improved speed of awareness to issues
We did not evaluate other products, as we are already a SolarWinds customer, having used Orion for several years.
Support responded the same day to my query, as I was setting the product up but couldn't find the setting I needed. This was successfully resolved in a short time frame, so I was pleased with how quickly we were able to get this resolved. I haven't needed to contact support since.

Pingdom is well suited to monitor any of your public facing IPs, so you receive an alert by text message or email when the IP you are monitoring does not respond for a given length of time, from an impressive 10ms to 30s. This allows you to be pretty granular with the alerting.
It's less appropriate for monitoring IPs on your LAN, unless you NAT these through your firewall.
