Overall Satisfaction with TargetX

TargetX is being used by all of our recruitment and admissions departments across campus. This means all of our graduate, adult, and traditional undergraduate programs all use TargetX for recruitment of new students and marketing to potential students. We currently use it to send email marketing to prospective students in all of our programs. We also use it as our sole CRM and very much enjoy the integration with Salesforce that it provides.

Pros

  • Addresses the higher education infrastructure to integrate Salesforce
  • Email marketing is done at huge cost savings over other marketing platforms in Salesforce
  • Helps facilitate events on an off-campus
  • Helps our admissions counselors keep up on tasks and contacts

Cons

  • When sending large volumes of email the campaigns can be slow to send
  • The events functions are not as robust as some of the competition
  • Their telemarketing component has not been updated in a while and leaves a bit for current call centers.
  • We have saved a great deal of money on email campaigns with over half a million contacts
  • Managing of on-campus event registration has been very successful for us.
  • By creating a call center using their Telemarketing component we have been able to increase our enrollment for a number of programs
We transitioned from Hobsons older CRM, Connect, as it was an aging CRM that was not going to be supported much longer. TargetX was right for us at the time as Salesforce did not have a pure data structure for higher education. TargetX provided all of the support and infrastructure to get a Salesforce CRM suited for higher ed. Hobsons Radius is their newer CRM but it is not based on Salesforce and thus is not the leading industry standard.
TargetX is very well suited for smaller colleges who do not have all of the resources to manage a pure Salesforce environment for their CRM. They provide great support and direction for different business use cases. They have a product that has been around longer than any other higher ed CRM solution out there in regards to Salesforce. It is likely less appropriate for a school that has a lot of resources and could handle using Salesforce and their HEDA approach to higher ed CRM solutions.
