Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
We use the Unitrends recovery appliance for file level backup of our Windows Server 2012 R2 environment. We also use their archival unit to carry the compressed archival off-site. We only use the unit in the IT department however everyone benefits when they "lose" a document. The appliance has never (and I mean never) had an issue whatsoever. It's very reliable, always up and performs as expected when called upon.
Pros
- Customer support is never an issue. They are always willing to help you configure new features and explain the thought process.
- Not a single minute of downtime over several years.
Cons
- Linux backups could be more straight forward.
- The GUI is sluggish but apparently a newer version is out, haven't tried it yet.
- Recovering key deleted files.
- Peace of mind knowing our critical applications can be restored when necessary.
- IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager
Tivoli cost a lot more and outside of speediness of administration and cost there isn't much difference between the two for my basic needs. Unitrends was the best bang for the buck and performed great during our evaluation. We just purchased a new Unitrends backup appliance (grew out of the old one) and I just rack mounted it yesterday. One thing I like right off the bat is the interface is much cleaner and faster.
