Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
At Spitfire, we develop and maintain software. At any one time, three versions are under maintenance and we require VMs suitable for building each and another set of VMs for QA and testing. This adds up to a lot of VMs, with a need to be able to restore an entire VM. Of course, we also have standard infrastructure: AD servers, gateways, storage. Our old backup solution was taking far too long to run each night. Veeam gets the job done in minutes
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- Entire VM backup with minimal IO
- Tiering of backups to AWS S3
- Restoring a single file in minutes
- Licensing has change 3 times in 3 years
- Editing a backup job is a bit tedious
- Hard to know the status of S3 offloading

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform Foundation again?

We protect twenty VMs and three physical servers (two HV hosts and a storage server) This is exactly what I expected. We added offsite tiering to S3 storage when that feature became available, then re-implemented when immutable storage was available. We have not bothered with using Veeam for AWS backups - AWS snapshots do the job adequately.
- Veeam has made the development and QA environment saner by allowing us full control of the testing state for each version of our software
- Veeam has reduced our backup window dramatically
- Veeam allows us to restore a specific test scenario and re-test over and over with great ease.
Well, we had been using Symantec (now Veritas) Backup Exec for a decade. But (the old version) of that solution did not scale well as our storage needs to be increased. It did not offer the data-deduplication and load reduction built into Veeam. We also needed to reduce QA overhead when we needed to have a given test environment easily rebuilt.
I hope I never need it, but the S3 immutable storage is my last line of defense against a ransomware attack. Not sure that simple sentence does justice to how important it actually has been for the ability to get a good night's sleep.
We use Veeam to backup our NAS server - it works perfectly and restores an individual file or folder with simplicity and speed. We consider this a basic part of the backup software and it isn't something I would normally go on and on about - but Veeam gets this bread and butter feature right.
