Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We follow a 3-2-1 backup rule. We have two separate domains in two separate locations that we need to backup.
Pros
- The basics of the system are easy to setup
- It is reliable, you can trust it to backup your data and that the data will be retrievable
- Adding new physical and virtual machines to the backup plans is easy
Cons
- It is a very complex system that does require training
- Documentation could be better
- Sometimes machines don't backup and you aren't notified, you must be vigilant about checking logs
- Recoveries can be slow, but this could be us not having things setup correctly
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- NAS filers
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
We use a different software for cloud backups- it was already in place when we moved to Veeam Data Platform and works great. We have 80 virtual/physical workloads protected by Veeam Data Platform. This is more than originally anticipated. Once we got familiar with the software we wanted to roll it out in our second location.
- It took us longer to learn than originally anticipated
- Backups are very easy once in place
Our old backup software stopped being reliable. It would say backups were running properly but when we tested backups or went to retrieve data we could not depend on the data being there. This is not something we worry about since switching to Veeam Data Platform.
We store backups in the cloud and that has been working great for us. We already had another cloud solution in place for backing up our cloud environment when we moved to Veeam Data Platform. The solution in place works great and we really found no need to change it. If it ever stopped working or was not reliable we would definitely consider switching the cloud environment to Veeam Data Platform.
Our most frequent restores are files/folders from our File Storage. This works great and since moving to Veeam Data Platform we no longer have to worry when someone reaches out about a deleted file that we won't be able to retrieve it for them.
- Arcserve Cloud Services, Arcserve OneXafe, Arcserve ShadowProtect, ConnectWise Cloud Backup, Acronis Advanced Backup, Symantec Advanced Threat Protection, Symantec Asset Management Suite and Symantec Client Management Suite
Veeam Data Platform came recommended to us by our VAR. We were impressed with the features and when we tested the software, we found it easy to use.
