Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Veeam provides the application support to backup the critical resident VMs of our primary computing cluster and storage.array. This comprises currently approximately twenty virtual machines to be retained for years, and retrieved from or restored as dictated by events and organizational demands.

Roughly twenty. This number has went down a small amount since we started as we take older systems offline and in some cases move to externally run cloud-based services to replace those systems.

Backups done correctly save money. The end.

Needs Assessment

Renewal prices with our previous vendor going up and their support experience getting progressively worse were the primary motivators. The Veeam implementation was a breeze compared to working with our previous solution, and the support is leaps above.

Cloud Capabilities

We run backups of our on-premises data to cloud storage for protection against local infiltration or disaster events. Thankfully, we have not been called upon to utilize that capability.
We also endeavour to backup the important data that our users are progressively storing more and more already in the cloud through services like Azure/M365. And when users misplace that data, they call on us to retrieve it, and we call on Veeam to do so, saving us, and our users, time that would have otherwise been spent trying to replicate work.

Likelihood to Recommend

Veeam is an excellent solution for backing up your environment of VMWare or HyperV machines. We moved to them after working with several of their competitors, and the software is more intuitive than any other that I worked with in that time. Further, their support team has been excellent, not only addressing questions and issues directly with Veeam, but also in adjoining projects and products.
When we started with them, they were still bringing their physical client into the integrated fold, but now the agent backup looks much the same from the backend.
