Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
Provides daily backups of our entire VMware environment. Also, do hourly transaction log backups of our critical databases. Provides automated management of on-site and off-site backups for reliability and disaster recovery.
Pros

- Excellent notification levels for critical and non-critical failures in the backups.
Cons
- A clearer description of the backup infrastructure.
- Easier reporting on which backup job is backing up which server.
- Prevent the creation of multiple backup repositories to a single destination.
- Virtualized workloads
- NAS filers
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
We have 150 virtual machines in our environment. Veeam was purchased before I joined the organization.
- Great ROI. Backups are done with minimal intervention.
- Low manpower is needed to perform backups and restores.
- Able to give rights to users to restore their own environments and easy to use interface.
Veeam was in place when I joined the organization.
Fantastic speed for backing up data to our protected storage. Being able to use the same job for on and offsite storage ensures we consistently get the correct backup levels done on our data. Veeam is great for data replication for an off-site disaster recovery site. Keeping the data synced between the sites with minimal effort. Veeam struggles with some vendors doing backups of live databases. This may be a problem with the vendor versus Veeam.
We have NAS devices that are easily backed up with Veeam. Being able to quickly access backups and restore the correct version of the files is a seamless process.
Veeam is the easiest to manage of these products. They were the first to provide server replication in the VM environment.
