Overall Satisfaction with VMTurbo Operations Manager

I use VMTurbo to balance workloads for our VMware environment. Eventually we hope to also use the product to right size our VM workloads.
  • Probably the best product on the market for automatically balancing workload. We are pushing 50 to 1 consolidation ratios and having VMTurbo balance the workload. We see around 500 vMotions a day with VMTurbo.
  • VMTurbo provides good recommendations for right sizing VMs. VMTurbo accounts for peak workload when calculating its sizing recommendations. VROPS does not account for peaks. That can be a career limiting mistake.
  • We at times overload the database and cause VMTurbo to stop working. This normally happens when we put the host in maintenance move and move stuff around. My understanding is that VMTurbo runs on an SQL express database.
  • The user interface can be buggy at times. There is a lot of polishing that can still be done to the user interface.
  • The reports in VMturbo are simply not as detailed at VROPS at this time.
  • With VMturbo we have felt comfortable taking our consolidation ratios from 25:1 to 50:1 cutting the amount of host we need to run our environment.
The main change we have made with VMTurbo is fully relying on it to do "DRS". At this time we are not using it to size VMs.
We use two products in this company. VMTurbo is used to balance workload. VROPS is used for data mining and reporting.

VMTurbo is the perfect tool for workload placement and balancing.

VMTurbo is not the tool if you are wanting customized reports or data mining.
