Overall Satisfaction with vSphere
vSphere is the primary virtualization technology that we use to maximize our server hardware investment. We are almost 100% virtual and only have a handful of physical machines, which greatly reduces our hardware refresh cycle.
- vSphere is a trusted hypervisor and VMware keeps patches coming and introduces new features as well.
- VMware is a leader in hypervisor technology.
- Nothing comes to mind for vSphere to improve.
- The cost of vSphere is high considering that the main competitor, Hyper-V, is free.
- Hyper-V and Citrix Hypervisor (formerly XenServer)
vSphere is much easier to use for a larger enterprise and also is easier to set up than Hyper-V. XenServer is simply not popular so while not a bad choice it is not the best because so little will be available for it. I cannot speak to the latest versions of Citrix since I have not used it recently.
