Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard AuthPoint

We use it with some clients for M365 and OWA. Some clients have limited company phones and don't want the employees to have to use their own phones for holding Microsoft Authenticator. So, they have a hybrid solution with soft tokens on company phones and hard tokens for everyone else.

Pros

  • Security
  • Moving soft tokens from phone to phone
  • SAML

Cons

  • Tracking down root cause when WatchGuard AuthPoint is failing
  • Not really easy to setup
  • Changing user in AD groups with WatchGuard AuthPoint
  • Pretty seamless to clients
  • Made vpn's secure for remote access
  • Failure due to internal WatchGuard issue is pretty low
Started looking at Yubikeys and RSA, but WatchGuard AuthPoint had complete package instead of piecemealing tokens with one vendor and then using softkeys from Microsoft or another vendor.

Would you buy WatchGuard AuthPoint again?

Yes

If someone just wants a replacement for Microsoft Authenticator, it's doesn't make sense. Microsoft Authenticator is just simple for M365. However, if someone wants an alternative where they don't want to use a soft token on employees' personal phones, then WatchGuard AuthPoint has the answer with a hard token solution. It also works well securing vpn's.
