Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

I had a customer I hadn't heard from in a few years needing a VPN solution between his two locations. Setting up two WatchGuard firewalls, I had him up and running in a matter of hours (because one of the locations was two hours away). Simple install, firmware upgrade, and cloud integration. He contacted me a few days later, saying there was an issue because one of the sites he used regularly was blocked. Got into the firewall and, using Traffic Monitor, could see what was blocked and quickly made a rule to allow the traffic to pass. I love the simplicity of WatchGuard while also knowing it gives security on the same level as other larger companies without the complexity that isn't needed. They just work.
  • Traffic monitoring in a easy to read interface
  • Policy creation in a few clicks
  • Drag and drop VPN
  • Cloud integration
  • Bridging ports, after the firewall is setup, isn't as easy as it could be.
  • Cloud integration for management requires recreating the entire device. It should just convert the current config.
  • Adding a Proxy policy should be on a different page from the other policy creation page.
  • I don't track RoI. I track happy customers.
  • All of my customers that have WatchGuard are happy with it.
I work with Orlantech, Inc. to get the devices, but once I have it, I do all of the installation and configuration, as well as maintenance. I ordered the device from them and I was able to pay and pick up without any hassle. They are also down the block from me and I am a former employee there.
I like the idea of UTS, but there is a little too much of an offering to say that I know I can use it for my customer base. I have use case, like content monitoring to make sure credit card and social security numbers are not passed outside of the network, but I do not have anyone within my current base that will purchase it.
Other than monitoring and configuring physical on prem devices, I do not use cloud products, other than malware scanning. That is seamless, so I don't even think about it.
I find the WatchGuard products easier to configure than the similar SonicWall and Cisco products. I would rather spend time securing the rest of my network, than trying to get a network setup with the non-WatchGuard devices. SonicWall is not that complex either, but I trust WatchGuard more from personal experience. As for Cisco, if I wanted to waste time on setting up a network with software that doesn't work the way it says it should or something more complex than it needs to be, I would rather bang my head against the wall and expect the same results as using their security product with just a little less effort on my part. WatchGuard just works, as long as it is updated on a regular basis.

Do you think WatchGuard Network Security delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with WatchGuard Network Security's feature set?

Yes

Did WatchGuard Network Security live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of WatchGuard Network Security go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy WatchGuard Network Security again?

Yes

I can't think of any place where WatchGuard isn't well suited, unless the customer is cheap. I have used WatchGuard devices in a two person office up to enterprise environments. Because they are not overly complicated to use, I prefer them to a name brand I'm not willing to mention, but most will know.
