Overall Satisfaction with Zix Email Encryption (ZixEncrypt)

We use Zix across our entire organization. As a financial institution, it is imperative that we protect data on every level to prevent accidental or unauthorized exposure of non public personal information of customer data. Based on policies, we can ensure that we are encrypting sensitive data.

Pros

  • You wouldn't think you would need to do this, but Zix has a profanity filter that ensures that our staff are communicating professionally every time.
  • Zix policies can stop an employee from accidently sending a social security number or account number through email.
  • We have some members that originate the email to us through Zix so that they can send sensitive information as attachments or in the body of the email.

Cons

  • There are so many functions available, I'm not sure if the deficiencies we see are actually with Zix or our lack of knowledge. So this in itself is a weakness.
  • Zix has had a lot of issues recently with outages. They've been remedied quickly, but there have been quite a few.
  • Having encrypted email shows to our members and potential members that we are sophisticated enough to know what is necessary to protect their sensitive data.
  • The only negative impact is that sometimes when we are sending emails to other businesses, they are blocked from going to an encrypted email site. That is very frustrating.
The most important factors in the evaluation process were ease of use, industry acceptance and price.
Zix is used in the industry quite a bit which makes for an easy conversation between Zix users without having to go back and forth through an encrypted site to read an email that you have received. The price point for Zix is excellent as well, which I didn't expect given that it was such a well known product. I expected it to be for mega-banks and credit unions but it works quite well for our small organization and is affordable.

Using Zix Email Encryption (ZixEncrypt)

It's a part of Microsoft Outlook and the emails are scanned in the background. I don't have to think about whether the document needs to be encrypted. But if I'm concerned whether or not it will be encrypted, I can click the "encrypt and send" button inside my email to be double sure it is encrypted. This gives me peace of mind as an executive to know that Zix will still catch and encrypt and email when a careless employee makes a mistake.
