I work a lot with our research team to gather information and statistics for these projects. Adobe Campaign is great in helping us with implementing our workflow by collecting the information, categorizing it in appropriate fields, and helping me find the best solution to present it in the best way to both my team and clients.

It is suitable for analyzing statistical data and formulating statistical quality analyzes. Suitable for generating charts and graphs that represent or summarize the statistical study. Highly suitable for performing complex statistical studies. Inadequate to perform simple tasks, this software is specialized and to make the most of it, it is best to use it in studies that require statistical precision.

Pros

  • Campaign Management: Awesome capability in automating and segmenting campaigns. However, automating and segmenting are minor compared to the marketing intelligence provide via tracking and integration with SiteCatalyst. Knowing our demography and behavior has influenced innovation to tailor our content to the needs of the target audience.
  • Overall this system has improved Mercola from a batch and blast shop to being able to personalize marketing to a demographic or individual level.
  • Simplicity of the UI for a technical tool. If you are doing email marketing, this is a must-have tool.

  • Help desk with SPSS is PHENOMENAL. All of my questions, regardless of what it might be, get answered promptly.
  • I feel that IBM has done a good job of keeping SPSS affordable for cash strapped research departments.
  • I feel that IBM has done a good job of integrating SPSS statistics desktop and Modeler with their products.

Cons

  • The reporting engine needs to be improved. It is difficult to build custom reporting.
  • Adobe Campaign is not meant to act as a CRM, so anyone looking to leverage this from Campaign might be disappointed.
  • It does require some technical knowledge to manage and operate on a daily basis.

  • Some new researchers are still overwhelmed by "all the choices" and menus in SPSS. Students may feel insecure or indecisive about how to explore it and properly complete assignments or research outcomes.
  • Although there are many external you tube how-to videos and support via a quick Google Search, the internal "help" tools are sometimes as complicated as the original problem. Creating "How to Run SPSS for Dummies" that is available INSIDE the product would be wonderful! Any support that is "on-site" builds confidence and security in new users.
  • Sometimes the terminology inside SPSS does not exactly mirror the research language a student or novice researcher finds on other websites. If SPSS provided a glossary of research terms and interchangeable meanings etc it would be a great support.
  • I have found many resources to support or explain SPSS integration into research courses. I think it would be a tremendous benefit to have some of these ancillary support websites or services noted and recommended from within SPSS. Although this offering may require collaboration or partnership with other organizations or products, I see the relationship as an opportunity to enhance the user-friendly nature of SPSS and also improve SPSS's reputation as a software for educators.

Once you go for Neolane you are a bit stuck with it, so we will most likely stay with Neolane. Cost of investment and training are the main factors at work here. We havesimply have invested too much in the product to stop using it after 2 years.That said, my score of 8 does not imply that the product is worthy of getting an 8 but reflects our willingness to renew.Given that upgrading to a new version will cost again a substantial sum, we most likely will keep using the current version we are on which is 6X.

I would say that generally the knowledge of the support team we work with is good, great even.I can't say that they seem to be very interested or involved in trying to make the product work best for us.They do what needs to be done, and they do it well - but not really going the extra mile.

I have not contacted IBM SPSS for support myself. However, our IT staff has for trying to get SPSS Text Analytics Module to work. The issue was never resolved, but I'm not sure if it was on the IT's end or on SPSS's end

Have a plan for managing the yearly upgrade cycle. Most users work in the desktop version, so there needs to be a mechanism for either pushing out new versions of the software or a key manager to deal with updated licensing keys. If you have a lot of users this needs to be planned for in advance.

Alternatives Considered

MailChimp is more user-friendly, is a bit easier to use, and is a more affordable product in comparison to Adobe. However, with Adobe Campaign one can produce more professional looking products since it tends to be used by more advanced users. Also, the analytics on Adobe is more in-depth and gives more data than MailChimp.

IBM SPSS is the easiest to use program of various statistical software packages. It may not be able to run the most complex models (e.g., hierarchical modeling or modeling in groups) as easily, but for someone who just needs to run basic stats (e.g., t-tests, regressions, ANOVAs), it is the most user-friendly with great drop-down menus and a great graphical user interface (GUI).

  • It has enabled our university to attract better students who seek a university high in the rankings from academic publishing (and SPSS is required for the data analysis for those publications).
  • With the increased costs of 6 month or 12 month licenses, it has decreased ROI on student fees because more money is spent on renewing licenses to the program.
  • It has also increased ROI as we are able to attract better talent that desire to have this as the base program they use.
