Appcues is online software for creating in-product experiences such as user onboarding, feature announcements, etc. without writing any code. (The vendor believes it's the non-technical people who oftentimes have the best information about a software user's needs and desires.) The goal of using Appcues is to improve product engagement within the user's own customer base.

Software Development Manager in Engineering at Ventus Wireless (Telecommunications, 51-200 employees)
Chose Appcues
We looked at WalkMe a while back when we started looking for a solution, but Appcues at that time made it significantly easier to use and implement. I haven't evaluated WalkMe recently, but I'm sure they've come a long way, just as Appcues has.

Chose Appcues
Appcues is much more affordable than WalkMe and Pendo from our research. We were previously using Intercom, however Intercom was designed more for purely in-app messaging rather than actually providing flows and cues guiding users throughout an app. We also received lots of …

Chose Appcues
One of the things we really loved about Appcues that ultimately led us to go with them is that it has a two-way integration with Heap Analytics. We are big fans of Heap, so being able to create user segments in Heap and push them over to Appcues to show modals to was a huge …

WalkMe is by far more customizable and fully features compared to its competitors. This does mean it takes longer to learn all the features, however, it also means you can customize the tours to a greater degree. Most of the competitor products are between a third to half the …

It is well suited for SaaS products or services that have a highly complex user interface. Through Appcues, you can ensure that people discover all the existing and new features and make them understand the value of your product as soon as possible to address the evergreen issue of churn. But if your user interface is really messed up, you should change the product itself instead of using a tool like Appcues to explain everything on the screen.

I always recommend Ibexa DXP to my fellows. The only scenario that I would not recommend it is if the site is either too small, too simple, or that they simply cannot afford to stand it up properly.
New system implementation - if you're switching or upgrading systems, you can ease users through the transition by providing in-system contextual guidance, extra tips, and automating clicks they don't need to worry about.
Data integrity - if you have users making mistakes in the system, you can add validation with WalkMe without the need for developer time and reduce those errors and upstream problems, and related costs
Reducing support tickets - if you have support tickets coming through about how to do tasks in a system, you can reduce the time and cost of your support staff answering these tickets by addressing the queries with WalkMe content
Change management - ease users through change with guidance and provide in-system surveys
Onboarding - bring new users quickly up to speed with onboarding tasks
Automation - automate your regular processes and cut system time, freeing users up for more important tasks
Process/system analysis - use the analytics to track where users are dropping off in processes and making errors and address these with WalkMe content
User experience - make your system more user friendly

Content Taxonomy: Content is managed in a tree. Though taxonomy vs folksonomy is a near-religious debate among professionals, clients seeing the system for the first time just seem to "get it" more often.
Content Flexibility: Common content types such as blog posts and articles are available out of the box. However, customizing these and creating new content types is very easy.
Developer Friendly: Developers need only a little PHP experience to get started. Of course being an expert doesn't hurt and opens the door for the development of custom modules.

Ease of use and getting up-to-speed in a few days only. WalkMe can be used by new users easily and quickly, yet provides a many advance features for power users to keep exploring and creating innovative solutions--there are always some things that you have not used earlier
Great analytics on our platform, usage and adoption by users, and surveys
Very friendly community of users who help each other all the time and structured upskilling programs, weekly tips keep the learning going
We were extremely surprised that there are not any Appcues used in Appcues. The app is pretty easy to use, once you figure out how to use it. There were not any type of tutorials when we logged in that quickly walked through how to setup a flow.
Appcues has lots of support articles, however they are almost so numerous that it was hard to find simple onboarding documentation that we found useful.
The different tooltips and product actions are great, but being able to customize the different cues a little bit more by changing sizes and aspect ratios could be an improvement.

Firefox plugin: The only time I use Firefox is when building a walk-thru. I would like to be able to use Chrome to build the walk-thrus.
Logic: Walk-thrus, Launchers, Shoutouts and walk-thru steps use different logic. I can't always fire something based on a click or URL when sometimes I would like to.
Design: You can use CSS to customize the look of your walk-thrus, but there isn't a way to remove the sidebar color of the walk-thrus.

It is quite easy to navigate through the backend and also, you can directly work in frontend view. Dynamic content can be created on the fly. Their Landing page features are awesome. You create a page by drag & drop.
WalkMe has done a great job of making their tool easy to use. However because it is a Firefox plugin it causes me to need another browser and sacrifice the left 2 - 3 inches of my display, when working on a laptop this makes it a bit painful. Also when publishing you can organize your list of walk-thrus, the window size is small and limited to the constraints of the WalkMe tool.

They are directly reachable and help you to deal with other services, e.g. if would like to set up a CDN for China or if you would like to integrate a tool like HubSpot. If there is anything you are missing, they help you to find a workaround until they can deliver such items - like local language versions.
The WalkMe Support Team was phenomenal. My support rep made a genuine effort to ensure my success with using the WalkMe Software. She was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable on the software. If there was a question she did not know the answer too, she would find the answer and get back to me as soon as possible

It has a much, much better user interface, better customer care, and of course better pricing. This along with the fact that they were very accommodating for our use case ensured we went ahead with Appcues.

eZ Publish isn't as large in community size and number of installations as other content management systems. However, it's just as capable and met our needs:
Developers, system administrators, and project manager can all speak the same language during the development and maintenance cycles of a site.
End-user training is very straight-forward.
Vendor support is available.
Client IT departments can access if need (developers/designers/sysadmins).
The community is there (forums) and there are solid contributions (extensions) from both the vendor and the community.

My understanding is that WalkMe was selected based on its capability to support our requirements for our enterprise software. We wanted a product that allows us to provide help at the point of need, provide as little or as much help to guide the user to successfully use the product, and a product that is scalable and can support our growing capabilities.
We’ve priced other enterprise products and found Ibexa DXP to be a bit more expensive. However, not enough to dissuade us from staying with the product.
The partner ecosystem is small. However, we've worked with two Ibexa partners over the last 10 years. They were very skilled. They were great companies. We've interviewed other Ibexa partners in North America. We found them all to be professional with solid resumes.

Common knowledge: By making eZ a core offering, developers, system administrators, and project managers were able to communicate with each other effectively.
Training: Due to its content taxonomy, end-user training often went well.
Support: In our case, we had Gold support from eZ Publish which saved time and helped with customizations.

With a promise to help onboard, we found that as people interacted with the walk throughs they didn't get any significant value. Self-service wasn't improved, in fact, we got more complaints from the walk throughs than help from them.
NPS surveys were a nightmare to try and integrate with our CRM so we could action the results. Lost time and energy without much support from the WalkMe team
No improvement to our Product Adoption, so all cost and time and energy spent on implementation was a loss.
