Cisco Hosted Unified Communications Services

It is well suited for: Clients with call managers that want to continue using Cisco and want to minimize the new CAPEX. Clients that want to outsource the platform management and support.Clients that have a variation on the number of extensions.Although, Cisco HCS, is a solution that has a higher opex than the ones supported in ISP IP Centrex.

Ooma Office

I believe Ooma Office is well suited for a business of any size. It's a great system with so many useful features that are all included with the monthly plan amount. It is especially well suited for organizations with a heavy daily call volume from customers. We find it really helps with our Customer Service department.

Cons

Cisco Hosted Unified Communications Services

  • Integration with contact center plaforms
  • Integration with other UC platforms
  • Lower the tennant size and clusters capacity
  • Cisco's pressure to buy more and more licences, even not having a stale client pipeline (From the ISP point of view)

Ooma Office

  • Cell phone app could be a little easier to use.
  • Ooma Desktop needs some tweaking to make it more user friendly.
  • I would like my 800 number to be assigned to my personal mailbox vs. having to have its own extension.

Their usability is a perfect fit for a small business. We can offer the same features a large company offer their customer at a much more affordable price. The ease of use of the system make it quick to set up and train staff with little time required.

Ooma Office support is always available. I've never been on the phone with them for longer than 5 minutes. They are knowledgable, have great active listening skills, are able to make recommendations on how to make Ooma Office work even better for you, and wait times to speak with an agent are reasonable and typically less than 1 minute.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco Hosted Unified Communications Services

Cisco HCS platform is to be seen as a centralized UC platforms, that can be scalable as an IP Centrex solution and as rich in functionalities as a Cisco CUCM. If you're looking for a solution and your main focus is IM & P functionalities rather than voice, Lync is a good solution. If your focus is voice and telephony, Cisco is a better solution

Ooma Office

We used them before we switched, and they're just a little pricier. For exactly the same service, it was 50% cheaper with Ooma Office, and we were looking for savings, so it was the ideal switch. We're very happy with the decision to switch providers as Vonage didn't have any products that were substantially better.

Return on Investment

Cisco Hosted Unified Communications Services

  • Reduces the need to have a higher CAPEX in order to buy all the licenses at the start of the project.
  • The licensing is perpetual, the only associated cost with the licenses are SWSS.
  • Desktop sharing isn't a functionality.
  • Cisco SMB series can be used only with the higher cost licensing (Foundation/Standard).

Ooma Office

  • System made it one-stop shopping for fax lines and phones numbers and equipment which was convenient.
  • It was a shock to see that $39.98 of service manages to result in about $18 of additional “fees” every month. Makes the service significantly less of a bargain than is advertised.
