Likelihood to Recommend

Comscore vCE

The most important aspect is that Comscore offers one of the largest analytics suites available on display, mobile, video, and TV. Due to the scale of its data, it also provides a benchmark for analyzing the advertising industry. Finally, I like the fact that I can track site performance of my company's digital properties.

Parse.ly

Parse.ly is well suited for page views and short timeline comparisons, as well as author reports, in addition to general traffic source patterns for content for media operations. I expect it would be less appropriate for ecommerce. I am also not aware of any potential for ad impression analytics, and am not sure of that is a capability.

Pros

Comscore vCE

  • It helps in advanced reporting capabilities such as overnight reporting of audience demographics and integration with Comscore’s new multi-platform audience data.
  • It has the ability to combine metrics with other digital campaigns involving display and rich media to provide an unduplicated view of audiences across multiple ad formats.
  • It has global and cross-geographical campaign reporting capabilities.

Parse.ly

  • I like most how you can actively see where traffic is coming from, whether it's a specific tweet or website that hyperlinks to a story. Parse.ly is amazingly specific with this sort of thing
  • The design is terrific and you can easily shift between seeing the top performing stories of the day and the top performing stories of the past ten minutes

Cons

Comscore vCE

  • Due to the large array of products within the Comscore platform, it is difficult to search in the platform.
  • It also lacks the capability to track programmatic traffic which is unfortunate considering the impact it is having in the digital advertising industry.
  • The help section has not been elaborated very well making it difficult to navigate through the platform and fetch the right report.

Parse.ly

  • The URLs that list where some traffic came from (i.e. Twitter) are sometimes hard to read.
  • It would be great to see more detail of traffic sources. For example, if a spike of views come from Twitter it would be great to see if it is a specific tweet or account the bulk of views are coming from.

Getting support from Parsely is so easy. They are super responsive and really go out of their way to make sure they get you to a solution you're happy with. In the rare event that what you need is impossible, they actually record your feedback and actually get it to the people who could act on it. I've even had them get back to me later to get more information about a feature I requested.

Alternatives Considered

Comscore vCE

We have selected Comscore because in Google Analytics it is not possible to reprocess the information: you have to be careful when tagging campaigns, creating filters to segment information in profiles, etc. Any error can cause the data to not register correctly and the data cannot be reprocessed. If they are lost or not registered correctly, nothing can be done to recover them. The same would happen if the tracking code of any of the pages on the website were deleted.

Parse.ly

One of the things users first say when they start with Parse.ly is how easy it is to navigate through a lot of data thanks to the design. Parse.ly also has several data points and metrics that their competitors do not track. The automated reporting also makes it much easier to review metrics on your own time, instead of having to stare at the dashboard all day.

Return on Investment

Comscore vCE

  • The business problems that we are solving using Comscore data are vast.
  • The most notable being that we have more up-to-date data to provide our clients. When they are running TV ad campaigns, they want to see exactly how it performs.
  • Having to wait 2-3 months at a time for data isn't helpful, so with Comscore, being able to show them within a couple of weeks is excellent.

Parse.ly

  • Our audience has steadily grown since we got Parse.ly — particularly our mobile traffic. And the data helps reporters and photogs see what works with audiences, and what doesn't work as well as they perhaps thought. Knowing what readers really want to read has helped guide our news coverage.
