Considered Both Products
Dell RecoverPoint
Chose Dell RecoverPoint
Instead of creating the VMs, back them up and then create new VMs based on what had been templated on-premises, the organisation looked at newer and more suitable technologies from Microsoft such as Azure VM Image Builder. This saved a substantial amount of time to deploy new …

Chose Dell RecoverPoint
EMC RecoverPoint is a storage agnostic and highly reliable solution in terms of cost as well as reliability.
Chose Dell RecoverPoint
Zerto was selected to compete against recoverpoint.. Zerto was a virtual solution that doesn't work for physical solutions. Recoverpoint was chosen over Zerto because of the need to replicate and protect physical systems, versus just VMs. Zerto is under strong consideration as …
Chose Dell RecoverPoint
We picked EMC because of the whole product suite and integration with Vmware and SRM.

Chose OpenText Availability
Carbonite Availability does an outstanding job competing against competitors like Druva and Veeam. It provides useful tools that every organization needs in this day and age. Companies will rely on Carbonite Availability more and more as IT organizations become ever more …
Chose OpenText Availability

Zerto is a very nice tool when performing virtual to virtual replication. If you were to add a physical server in the mix, it would not be able to handle that server or the data on it.

Veeam is a way is similar to Zerto where it only has the ability to handle virtual to virtual …

Chose OpenText Availability
It's a cost effective solution for our smaller clients. However since doubletake is quite different from RecoverPoint. I can't do an apples to apples comparison.
Chose OpenText Availability
It is better for critical apps than Veeam due to the lower RPO. Veeam is favoured by some customers due to it's attractive price point.

Zerto is a very strong product and is innovating continuously. I don't see so much of this from DoubleTake.
Chose OpenText Availability
I was not involved in the initial review of DT so I have nothing to compare too.
Chose OpenText Availability
I'm not sure anyone else out there can provide what Doubletake has. [It's] Unique software that did exactly what we needed it to do.
Chose OpenText Availability
DoubleTake was recommended by our VisionSolutions partner, because we already using Mimix.

If you are a small business and you need a solution that is relatively easy to use and configure, then Dell EMC RecoverPoint is ok. The downside was that I found the cost to be high and was unable to negotiate a good licensing deal. Within a year I had to find a difference software vendor to meet my needs.

I believe it would work well with continuous replication in a DR scenario with no time limits and having the ability to fail back is a bonus, but in a one off move the decision to restrict the time it can sync for has proven to be an issue for us.

  • Allows for easy review and updating during replication processes. The Portal is user-friendly and very accessible with little user training.
  • Allows us to know when we have errors in replication and actions needed.
  • Their support is very quick and reliable in the event we have questions or issue.

Cons
  • Until now I don't have any but in this technological era there are bugs in every software but are fixed in next patches or new releases.

  • License management is poor and the online system is very restrictive, We are using a one time "Move" product that has a fixed life ... but sometimes in a small team other high priority tasks come along.
  • We lost all access to all licenses in the portal and all support because we hadn't used them in ninety days. Very poor service. We did get access back eventually but it took a lot of "bargaining".
  • Failover isn't always as smooth as it could be. VMDKs don't release properly and the move fails and has to be done manually. Not hard just frustrating. VMWare to VMWare.

I don't really have to call support too much, but when I have to they are always there to help.

Once through to support it is very good and they have assisted us through a number of issues. I don't always think that they provide a solution, more a workaround, but in a move situation where each copy is moving once, that isn't an issue. I'd be more concerned if we were using it to manage a DR scenario.

Zerto is a very nice tool when performing virtual to virtual replication. If you were to add a physical server in the mix, it would not be able to handle that server or the data on it. Veeam is a way is similar to Zerto where it only has the ability to handle virtual to virtual replication. The big difference is that it's not continuous replication. It uses a snapshot technology to grab the changes from the last snapshot and replicate that over.
