Data Discovery and Visualization
Comparison of Data Discovery and Visualization features of Product A and Product B
We need to constantly measures costs in our health business and we forecast pricing acoording to several values and conditions. Explorium works quite good analysing simple datasets, but when hierahies start to increase, meaning 6-10 olap variables, the system start to slow down quite a bit until was no longer to retrieve the info we required. This is why we test several tools, because even world-class solutions we purchase, don´t do the job we need. Explorium is a good tool, but complexity will be a minus in some scenarios.
If you do not have a large budget and are a large organization, I would steer clear of Actuate. If you are looking to do very complex washboarding, I would not use them. Your developers have to be very skilled to work with this. Plan to bring in consultants if necessary to help your process. Adhoc reporting is weak. If your pricing is user based and you expand, this could be very expensive.
RapidMiner is really fantastic to perform fast ETL processes and work on your data as you want, no matter what is the source. You will really save a lot of time when you learn how to use it. You can create mining analysis with several algorithms, and thanks to add-ons, you can apply a lot of techniques. It will not replace a business intelligence dashboard but it allows to create great datamarts for your BI tools. One negative thing is that It's no easy to share your outputs.
I am very impressed at how easily you can work within RapidMiner without much data analytics training. Plus with the help of the crowd, you can see what steps others have taken with their data analytics projects.
Text mining was simple and clean. We used this for our call transcription problem where we didn't have the resources to listen to each call. We needed to qualify each call based on some key phrases.
Our direct mail program was large and not very targeted. Using RapidMiner, we were able to isolate a predictive level we felt comfortable with and decided not to send to anyone below that level. We saved quite a bit of money.
I hope RapidMiner would be the first data science platform that allows data scientists to change the behaviour of a machine learning algorithm that already exists in the repository. For example, I want to be able to change the way a genetic algorithm mutates.
Automatic programming: One day, I hope RapidMiner can automatically generate codes in any 4th generation programming language based on the developed model.
More tutorials/samples needed: Why doesn't RapidMiner becomes the next 'UC Irvine Machine Learning Repository'? Provide real examples and real cases for users to study and understand the best practices in modelling. RapidMiner already has some datasets for a tutorial. Besides the existing samples, I hope RapidMiner can provide more sample data and examples.
I am no longer working for the company that was using Actuate but I believe they would continue to use it because the stitching costs would be to high. It would require a complete rewrite of the reports and the never version of Actuate (BIRT) even required an almost complete report rewrite
It is quite intuitive to use. It is fit specifically for doing sentiment, emotion, and intention analysis as well as text classification and text summarization. I would have given 10 if it is fit for the purpose of doing image processing and analysis as well. There is a huge market to analyze video and image data.
The simplicity of the tool is an advantage. The integrations as well work quite well. All these solutions have worked well until some point and what we have discovered over the years is that we need to combine various solutions. There is no such thing as one tool ruling them all. Explorium works quite well until we start testing more advanced relations, and here, the tool is promising but requires a little work.
It is vastly superior to these in many ways, for complex reporting it is a much more sophisticated solution. Visualizations are very good. Javascript extensibility is very powerful, others don't support this or as well. Pentaho and MS are both OLAP oriented. Pentaho is moving more toward big data, which was not our primary focus. Others are stuck in the Crystal Reports Band metaphor.
We tried different data tools and we figured we give RapidMinder Studio a shot as one of our employees had experience with it, and when compared to some of the other tools that we used it was the best fit among the test group that we used. Overall it was a little more fluid and user-friendly.
Actuate can handle 50 to 60 sub reports inside a report very well.
Dynamically creating the datasource, chart, graph, reports are the main advantages. We can do any level of drilling, and can create a performance matrix dashboard efficiently.
Thanks to the patters that RapidMiner has detected, we have been able to follow clues in the right direction, both for the Protein Interaction Network Analysis and for the Epilepsy Research
Students and participants of the machine learning workshops have learned about this technology and about the tool
