Some of our clients use Vimeo Livestream and find it overly complicated. Gumlet hasn't released it yet, but considering how easy it is to use their other services, I trust it will be just as easy to live stream - with the bonus of the content protection.

Not sure on the negative use case because it does exactly what I need it to do. Made client website look more professional without having ads displayed. WordPress integration was clean and simple. Shared links were a lifesaver, no need anymore for having to build a landing page. Saved hours in our workflow.

Vimeo is much better for Live-streaming than other software or hardware based solutions. The Livestream Studio app runs on Macs and PCs with almost any hardware configuration. It allows you to have unlimited hardware HD and 4k inputs. 3 GFX channels and 3 media playback channels along with configurable outputs while streaming. The most unique tool is the remote guest feature which has a type of zoom function built in so you can have remote speakers join a livestream and easily hear, see, and interact with the program. This software can transform an iMac into a video production truck run by one person.

Pros
Gumlet
  • The dynamic watermark is excellent in case people are that dedicated to stealing content, the watermark protects videos from being recorded by embedding the name or ID associated with the account viewing/recording the video to know who's releasing the content into the public.
  • Total video and player branding - it's not account-wide, but collection or even video specific (as far as I could tell) - so it's easy to clients with their own collection without having to create a new account everytime
  • In general, the features for the price is great. Gumlet provides far more functions than the big name video hosts.

  • Quality streaming of video - few if any hiccups.
  • Embed options that allow for customization of video.
  • Option to limit viewing to just one domain, so users can't share the video link with others who have not paid for the content.
  • Easy upload process.

Cons
Gumlet
  • The Gumlet admin interface comes with all the necessary controls, yet UX (also mobile X) could get improved. Settings are not always found where one would expect them, also data management with tagging and search still needs refinement.
  • Working with thousands of files in numerous categories could get challenging. The team, however, is aware of these shortcomings and is working on improvements.
  • We would greatly profit from files which remain linked to their source, once they got uploaded to the Gumlet platform. If his was the case, one could replace background music, refine text or improve colour grading without manual re-uploads and having to re-attach videos to pages.
  • Gumlet supports already watermarks, but it would also be handy to have simple option to set text / overlay graphics just for the thumbnail.

  • The editing features are very basic for an archived event, work for us most of the time but can be clunky.

Usability
Gumlet
Probably unfair to take a point off for this. It took a little while to navigate all of the options. This is a more complex platform than I was used to. And I am fairly new overall to CDN video hosting platforms. It took the first day to get comfortable with what we could do and how to manage it. But, it now all makes perfect sense and I prefer this layout.

The layout is inconsistent for different parts of the platform, it takes a very long time to find specific settings. Labels aren't clear sometimes - not to the first-time/average user. They actually just changed the interface with zero warning or tooltips and had to contact support to get it back to the version our teachers are familiar with.

Support Rating
Gumlet
This is probably the biggest factor for Gumlet. Their support team is fantastic and always professional. Most support inquiries through their chat get answered in minutes.

Generally Vimeo is fast to respond to support tickets with more or less the answer to the question/problem with documentation and clarity in the answer. Usually only takes on message to solve the issue.

Alternatives Considered
Gumlet
When you log into Gumlet the difference becomes apparent immediately. The sleek and data friendly dashboard puts all the important details right in front of your face. The upload and transcode speeds of Gumlet is also steps above VadooTV. Gumlet has top notch support and customer service where VadooTV is difficult to contact and has a slow response time if any response is received at all

Vimeo is awesome because it is a seamless experience that blends software and a cloud platform and end user experience. No other competitor offers a holistic solution the way Vimeo does. With other platforms you have to piece together multiple pieces of hardware and software and even with those pieces you don't get the same ease of use and performance that Vimeo gives you with their software and cloud solution

  • Positive ROI - the pricing is better than other comparable services with a better end result. So, the return on investment is significant since it is an inexpensive way to deliver what I need to my program users.
  • Positive - their 30 day trial period is so helpful to be able to determine if this is truly a good investment for you/your business. I was able to do all that I needed to within the first 30 days for live video, then continue with keeping the embed links with the continuing monthly subscription.
  • Positive - good analytics within the account (not Google Analytics with my level of subscription) so I can see how many users are viewing my videos, what devices they're on, and where they are in the world. This is all important for my business.
