Lookout

Lookout is excellent for mobile device security. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a simple solution to guarantee peace of mind when keeping mobile devices secure. It's also excellent for finding a device that's been lost remotely, including an excellent feature for enabling audio on a device when it was put in silent mode locally. The web UI is easy to use and allows for powerful functionality through a simple interface. Lastly, it is an excellent secondary backup solution. I'd recommend having other potential backup solutions as well in case this premium feature ever expires and you aren't sure whether you have a most recent contact backup within Lookout.

Malwarebytes

Malwarebytes is definitely one of the top contenders in its field. As with any corporate software, there are headaches all along the way -- from implementation to daily use and support. And cost is also a factor. Although not inexpensive, Malwarebytes is comparable to its close competitors. Overall, the quality of the product shines through, and it does what it's intended to do...protect!

Pros

Lookout

  • It emits alerts before any vulnerability found, thus avoiding damages.
  • It has a very simple interface so it is easy to use.
  • It allows the protection against vulnerabilities as well as the backup of information and search before the loss of the mobile or theft.
  • It runs in the background so it does not interrupt any activity.
  • Its access is very flexible since only the internet is required to access through the application or web.

Malwarebytes

  • Low system resources, it does not slow down the whole computer when scanning or when real-time protection is enabled
  • Quick and frequent updates, usually people hate updating, but for malware/viruses, you want to be updated as possible. It takes less than 15 seconds and usually does it automatically. They usually send a few updates a day as they find more.
  • Protection features actually work when visiting known bad websites. The page will be blocked and nothing will be downloaded. It may not be what the user wants, but it's what the user needs (as the user can't know every bad website)

Cons

Lookout

  • They're the global, mobile cyber experts we trust. They're ahead of the curve already. All I could suggest is, keep going in that direction.
  • Perhaps, send out an occasional , brief update on global trends that business executives should be aware of, even when Lookout is already on it.
  • Keep it brief, with a case study where a proactive action was taken and an event was avoided. Those would be shared enterprise-wide.
  • More PR about your proactive actions would be educational for us all. NO FUD, will ever work, but seeing that there are actions we can take, even to the newest of threats will be very effective.

Malwarebytes

  • One of the main things that malwarebytes is missing as a company, is phone support for its clients. All support questions has to go thru email only. This is not acceptable for issues that needs to be resolved quickly.
  • There is an issue when installing the client on a machine, it has a set amount of time where the software can register with the management server. The issue with this is, with machines that are over a wide area network, slow connection speeds can cause the software not to register. When that happens, it never re attempts to register in the future.

The last time we renewed Malwarebytes, we renewed for a 3 year renewal. That should describe the confidence we have in the product. Plus the cost savings impact year after year.

When you have a product that does the job that it describes or advertises, you have to love it. While the malware posture is always changing, we depend on products that we pay for year after year to protect us from threats, both known and unknown. I give this rating because Malwarebytes just works and you don't have to worry whether it is going to beat up other programs on your systems.

I honestly haven't needed support for Malwarebytes because I haven't had any problems with it, whatsoever. I am giving it a 9 rating because I haven't actually had an encounter or experience with customer service or support, so it's hard to rate the actual support team since I've never had the privilege of coming into contact with them.

Alternatives Considered

Lookout

Lower cost, and gets the basic to tracking devices. The backup feature and ease of use is good.

Malwarebytes

Avast and Norton's products were part of the testing for us but the cost was very high for them and the products were not light on the machine. They took up a lot of memory and slowed the computers down. Malwarebytes although may lack some feature, is a very light software.

Return on Investment

Lookout

  • Lookout has minimized lost devices, by essentially enabling all users to find their device no matter where it may be lost. Almost all devices are recoverable with Lookout installed and an ability to get to the current location of the device. This prevents excessive replacement device costs.
  • If a device cannot be physically recovered all personal data on the device can be wiped remotely. This reduces data breach risk for a lost/stolen device.

Malwarebytes

  • One of the positive impacts it has had was that it offers another layer of protection against threats in an organization. It almost seems like there is never an all-in-one solution when it comes to AV and protecting/removing threats, and that there is a benefit to running more than one product on endpoints.
  • Another positive impact it has had was it really hasn't hurt user productivity when the program runs on the end-user's system. It could scan, or even be left open, and the end-user should not experience any slowdowns.
