Software developers are big enthusiasts of a ChatOps software, such as Mattermost, as it allows for direct collaboration without unnecessarily relying on email to get projects done. That goes for any teams that require collaboration. Some scenarios where Mattermost may not work as well would be teams that are in different geographic locations, such as teammates in India. Due to the time difference, collaboration would be harder, and an application like Mattermost may not have that much benefit.

Statuspage

StatusPage is well suited for notifications on services and products. If you need to have a passive way to notify users, internal staff, or executives on the status of SaaS services, StatusPage is a low barrier way to do this with minimal setup and maintenance.StatusPage is not well suited for scenarios in which you want info kept private. If StatusPage is updated, the subscribers to those alerts will be notified so you just want to make sure you're addressing the right audience with updates.

  • It's open-source! So our devs could adequate the tool to our necessities.
  • It works particularly well in every navigator.
  • It also works well in mobile phones, even when you choose not to install the mobile app (this is a BIG plus).

  • StatusPage is nice because it keeps a rolling update on the previous statuses, but when it displays in Hipchat it just shows the last update.

It's an extremely easy to use software, and I would recommend it to every company that is growing. I think they could improve their notification system, as it gets a little spammy sometimes and important notifications get lost. Also needs to improve the number of private chats that you are allowed to create.

Support is very responsive although we haven't had to contact them in a time of emergency, all of our support inquiries were answered in a timely manner and usually resolved with their first response. Support responsiveness played a big role in our decision since if we need help during downtime, we can't really afford to wait.

Mattermost

Slack is excellent and has many of the same features as Mattermost. However, the cost if you have a larger group can be prohibitive. Mattermost is a better ROI per user, in our opinion. It also allows us to host it ourselves, which is more desirable for management by our MIS department.

Statuspage

I would say StatusPage on its own is a great service. StatusPage for Hipchat can only be used with that specific chat client. But on its own StatusPage can be integrated with many tools, like Slack, email notifications, text notifications, etc.I don't know of a tool that compares with StatusPage. You could essentially host your own status site with Greed Yellow or Red statuses, but you would be missing out on the robustness of a tool that keeps historical data, uptime, and segregates services based on components.

Statuspage

  • We were able to quickly train our entire support team to use this tool in less than 30 minutes, both to schedule maintenance and publish unexpected downtime. The product is so user friendly that it takes very little training to use proficiently.
  • Ease of integrations with existing services and software like Twitter and Slack allow us to reach further with our notification without creating new intake channels for stakeholders.
