Global Shop Solutions ERP encompasses most of our business. We use it for cost tracking, inventory movements, accounting, quality, and more. Out of the box, Global Shop Solutions ERP solves most business problems. We've been able to implement custom solutions using Global Shop Solutions ERP's GAB programming language and continue to find ways to customize the software and make it more meaningful for our company.

Pros

Flexibility. The amount of customizations available with and without Global Shop Solutions ERP programming are phenomenal.
Visibility. There are so many ways to find and report on information.
Auditing. Being able to see who did something is pretty good across the system and can be even more in depth with some key options turned on.
Service. The Global Shop Solutions ERP service department is amazing and can solve most questions with one phone call. In the instance it's a deeper issue, they're usually resolved fairly quickly as well and I love that they do always end up finding the solution.

Cons

The Quality modules could use a revamp.
The table structure is the hardest part to learn because it's a little all over the place. If this was streamlined, people would be able to accomplish more.
There are so many menu options they can get overwhelming. You can limit the impact on users by not giving permissions to the extra items, but it's also difficult to manage on the permissions side because of the sheer number of options. Function level security added a whole other layer of permissions that need to be maintained. Once it's set up, it's easy enough to maintain, but getting there is hard.

Return on Investment

The amount of time that we've been able to save in moving to more digital solutions has been the huge ROI we've seen. This is time back in people's day to accomplish new things.

This software has been like a Swiss Army Knife for our Organization and not only does it serve several purposes it does them all extremely well without much if any hassles. The open ended nature of the platform really allows you to tailor things to your needs, regardless of what industry you're in. This software is truly a unicorn.

The ROI on this software is incredible, I seldom gush but I genuinely cannot see any industry where this wouldn't be applicable and useful.
The forecasting alone is worth the price of admission
We love the simplicity and elegance of handling our IT inventory
About the closest thing to a complaint would be sometimes the updates can be a little fiddly with specific dot.net requirements but they're great about supporting even aging hardware and OS's.

We use pretty much all of it from accounting to scheduling to quoting. We are a job shop metal fabrication company with a niche in customer, high end architectural builds. All of that work requires quoting, scheduling, managing, billing etc. Global Shop has been a great and trusted resource for over 25 years to help us build and grow our business.

Pros

I really like the Bill of Materials module which allows taking very complex jobs and breaking them down into manageable, bit size, components. This helps on several levels. For starters, it helps build quotes that are very detailed and accurate. Quoting lump sum vs quoting all the components individually to create a lump sum are two totally different things. The first, is a SWAG, the second is an accurate quote that we can trust to be profitable and schedulable.
Take that a step further, now as these complex jobs enter our shop, we can send all the individual components through the shop simultaneously instead of waiting, waiting, waiting for the entire assembly to lumber through the shop one huge gulp at a time. That really impacts how we schedule and moves parts and pieces through the system significantly faster.
Finally, if there is a quality issue or an internally rejected part that requires rework, we can focus on fixing just one part while all the other parts are still making progress and getting finished.
Overall, working in detailed BOMs is a game changer for job shops.
Building shop travelers and shop work orders is also very easy and intuitive. Everything is organized by sequence, capturing time, materials and outsourced costs is easy to quote and easy to manage once the work orders leave the office and hit the floor.
I can look up jobs in the ERP system by Work Order Number, Customer Number, PO Number or Part Number. It is very easy to spot were jobs are in the system and where bottlenecks are accruing.

Cons

I think the CRM package could use a lot of work, honestly. It is not very intuitive, it works more like a data base than a drag and drop system that is more like traditional CRM's and it is hard to learn. We have had the module for years and still never use it. It would be nice to have that be an integral part of the system instead of a clunky add-on which is how it feels right now.
More Visual Dashboards with drill down capability. I know this is getting better but there is still quite a bit of work to make that better and could be a vital part of shop floor management as those visuals and scorecards really drive work performance and action on the shop floor.
Seems like the future is going to be way more AI integration and links to AI tools, like auto quoting, data entry, etc. Creating all the data integration, at least for our company, has been hard and expensive. For example, we are using a third part to create instant quoting for simple sheet metal parts and integrating that with GSS has been hard and much more expensive than I would have predicted.

Return on Investment

Hard for me to guess. Are we better now with Global Shop than we would have been before, absolutely yes. We had a custom software that was always breaking and never quite working right. GSS saved us from that hell.
Sometimes the measurement drives the process. In that regard, stuff we have wanted to measure has forced us to improve our process in order for GSS to work. That has been a dramatic improvement for our business and the most obvious ROI in my mind. I would say using good processes and measuring them has increased our overall productivity around 30%.

Using Global Shop Solutions ERP's capabilities, we've been able to reduce the amount of time needed for things as varied as payroll and cost report. And using Global Shop Solutions ERP helps eliminate inadvertent errors.
