Paycor's plus and not so plus an HR Administrators Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Paycor for all HR needs including payroll, benefits administration, and time and attendance. We use it daily for reporting purposes and onboarding staff.

Pros

  • Open enrollment-their software is user friendly and has good features for end users and administrators
  • Onboarding-entering new hires is easy
  • Mass Template Upload-you can easily upload mass changes, the system is easy to use.
  • Reporting-their reporting tool is improving and AI is incorporated into it.

Cons

  • Time & Attendance reporting-this can be improved by integrating the functionalities
  • Reporting-customs fields needs to be integrated since you can't run reports with these fields included
  • Manager access-having a better grasp as to what managers can view

Return on Investment

  • Positive ease of open enrollment for employees
  • Time and Attendance needs improvement, the HR team still gets lots of questions about it
  • Efficient mass uploads-this has eased the burden of HR administrative work

Heading in the right direction but still needs improvement

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it in almost every aspect of HR. From ATS to LMS to Payroll to Performance Management. I really like how everything is centralized here and it has helped us move away from using poorly designed documents and paper forms. It is relatively easy for employees to also log in and get access to their accounts. There isn't 100 versions of it like ADP where someone is logging into the wrong software.

Pros

  • Payroll
  • Applicant Tracking System
  • Performance Management

Cons

  • Customer Service
  • Benefits Advisor
  • Better updates

Return on Investment

  • Recruitment has been way better and wasting less time
  • EDI feeds connecting with BA is helpful
  • LMS has been useful but I think it is also a bit misleading and some trainings are just useless or poorly designed.

In our experience, Paycor falls short of the mark

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This was our HRIS and payroll system. It addressed the need to pay employees on time and file timely tax returns with the state and federal government.

Pros

  • Mobile app
  • Payroll was simplified
  • Could call and ask for help

Cons

  • Fraud alerts led to employees being paid late
  • Reporting section was a NIGHTMARE
  • Did not file taxes correctly.

Return on Investment

  • In our experience, Paid employees late so everyone from the President to the janitor was angry about that. I lost days of work dealing with the fallout of that.
  • In our experience, Did not expedite payment to our employees at their expense given that they caused the situation that led to our employees to be paid late.
  • Was fine for processing payroll until we were doing year end adjustments.

Paycor ATS Onboarding and Payroll Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Paycor for payroll, timetracking, as well as onboarding and recruiting of candidates. These modules allow us to streamline critical processes at the organization and build a process that will survive transitions in the team. By digitizing the process and layering a simple to use UX, both new and experienced employees can successfully complete the work with moderate levels of training.

Pros

  • Great user UX
  • Simple to use from a user perspective once a system is setup
  • Robust approvals and control systems

Cons

  • The backend implementation is extremely complex and requires too much trial and error
  • The implementation team is stretched thin and when onboarding new customers, they fall behind
  • Their hours of operations need to be longer to cover an earlier start and later start. Also, in my experience, their support representatives are not well trained nor do they understand the product well.

Return on Investment

  • reduced candidate day outstanding and we can recruit faster
  • Reduced time spent on payroll activities
  • HR having more free time per day

Paycor for Payroll is great!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My company uses Paycor for payroll processing, benefits administration, onboarding, and reporting, we are looking to add on the talent/recognition function. I was involved with the implementation from ADP to Paycor about 3 years ago. While I am not currently the main user of the software, our HR Administrator has/is experiencing hiccups with the implementation and use of the new Benefits Advisor rolled out this year. There are also a few lingering issues we continue to experience with Time on Demand but were told we would have to continue using this as our Time and Attendance software due to the complexity of our time-clocking/hour codes. I will also mention that during the demo, the sales rep talked very highly about Paycor's reporting function, but I have found it to be just ok. There have been quite a few times where I had to call in for a report that someone from Paycor was only able to customize/modify, and we were not able to do it ourselves.

Pros

  • Onboarding wizard is quick and easy to use for employer and employee
  • Some new functions in Benefits Advisor are great, the employee can initiate their own event and requires less oversight/follow-up from the employer
  • Ease of use/look and feel on the Perform side is great

Cons

  • Time on Demand - the function to request time off, allows employees to request 8 hours for 5 days off. It should populate the number of hours based on the number of days.
  • Manager view of Time on Demand and managing time cards - the page with the collapsible menus and boxes can get very confusing for a new user.

Return on Investment

  • Freed up time for other tasks
  • Improved employee experience
  • Saved money on payroll costs
