Poor support, Good for very small employers.

Rating: 1 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a PEO provider, JustWorks assists us with compliance, payroll, some benefit administration, and general employee file management. It houses all of our current HR functions and assists with tracking changes in labor laws across the country. We generally do not use their HR consulting services nor do we engage with their insurance programs. We use their in-house 401k, Workers Comp, Commuter Benefits, and Disability Insurance.

Pros

  • Onboarding
  • Reporting
  • Legal tracking through Mineral

Cons

  • Customer Support
  • Payroll/Expense Processes
  • Time Tracking
  • Mobile Application
  • Invoicing

Likelihood to Recommend

Justworks is a great solution for employers with 50 employees or less. Beyond this it is not scaleable and becomes very expensive very quickly. My managers have a very difficult time using the system and my staff do not like the mobile app which has less than half the functionality of the website. Their time tracking solution is clearly white-labeled and the support teams do not talk to one another effectively. This tool is a great way for very small employers to upgrade the employee experience but has serious flaws in usability at scale.

Great platform, especially for 100 and under employees with a ton of expertise.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In our organization we use Justworks to process payroll, pay vendors and contractors and provide employees with Discrimination and Harassment Training. We also use the space for providing annual tax information as well as some documents since terminated employees retain access to Justworks. Additionally, Justworks administers our benefits, manages our tax filings, workers comp insurance and unemployment claims.

Pros

  • Tax filings, workers comp and unemployment.
  • Benefits administration.
  • Support.

Cons

  • Bulk upload for onboarding, offboarding and documents.
  • I-9 (e-verify requires a SSN, but it is not a required field, resulting in employees who don't provide it to have to correct outside of the workflow)
  • Reporting.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great fit for a smaller company who operates in various states as they take care of all the necessary tax filings, they administer benefits, workers comp and unemployment, which otherwise would require a staff with specialized skill. All of this is done on a monthly fee.

I wish Justworks had a more robust HR workflow, we currently use a different system because Justworks lacks some capabilities for onboarding and offboarding.

Justworks for Small Business & Startups - a great PEO option!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Justworks is one of my go-to Professional Employment Organizations (PEOs) for clients needing payroll services and/or a healthcare solution for their employees. Especially for those organizations with little to no HR experience or support, Justworks provides an easy to use interface and excellent customer service for both routine and complicated HR situations.

Pros

  • Payroll Services
  • Healthcare
  • HR Labor Laws (State, City, Federal)
  • Customer Service - General product help, HR Specialists on call

Cons

  • Justworks is great but a newer PEO

Likelihood to Recommend

Justworks is a competitively priced product for small businesses and start-ups and, in my opinion, offers a better product and better customer service than larger PEOs competing in the same small-buisiness space (ex. ADP). I believe Justworks would work well for companies up to 200 employees; after that, I believe a bigger PEO may provide an enterprise solution better suited for a larger company (and their HR reporting needs).

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We moved from a payroll service to Justworks about 5 months ago to get the benefit of being with a PEO. There have been some benefits of the PEO side. The payroll side is another story. In my experience, our payroll process now takes at least 20 minutes longer per payroll and is much more complex and cumbersome than our old provider. Their marketing and onboarding people are helpful, but the payroll process itself is enough of a headache, in my opinion, and we may consider moving away from them in 2024.

Pros

  • Marketing
  • Onboarding

Cons

  • I believe the payroll process and module is clumsy, cumbersome, and complex (compared with many others I've used)

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are primarily interested in the PEO side, Justworks can be appropriate, especially if your payroll is straightforward. If you are already used to a payroll system that is efficient and easy to use, in my opinion, be ready to be frustrated by the Justworks payroll process. I believe there are HR tools that we've yet to tap into, so I am hopeful for those.

Justworks is a great HR platform to consider for small organizations

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My organization currently uses Justworks to manage our entire U.S. HR payroll, insurances (medical/dental/vision), 401(k), and other employee benefits (life insurance, AD&D, etc.). Justworks greatly helps us with HR administration and with federal, state, and local filings associated with payroll and HR. We also use Justworks for general HR guidance and to track paid time off requests and balances.

Pros

  • Payroll Administration
  • Customer Service
  • Medical/Dental/Vision and Ancillary Benefits Administration
  • 401(k)

Cons

  • Payroll for Staffs Based Abroad
  • Reporting Capabilities
  • Paid Time Off Tracker/Balance for Staffs Based Abroad
  • W2 Details

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall, Justworks is a great platform to use to manage organization wide payroll, benefits (medical/dental/vision), and other misc. HR related services (401(k), life insurance, AD&D). The value Justworks brings to our organization greatly exceeds its cost, which I find very reasonable. I particularly love its customer service, which is fast, reliable, and helpful (By calling a number, you get connected directly to a customer service rep., no answer machines or need to press multiple buttons/selections to get to where you need). By implementing Justworks for our HR needs in the U.S., it greatly reduces the time I spent on HR administration duties while offering great benefits and HR services to our employees.

JustWorks does a lot lot more than "just" what it needs to do! Great experience

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

JustWorks is the standard system for HR management, benefits, accounting, and payroll. I have acted both as a user and an administrator. It has a huge advantage over existing solutions since JustWorks offers the best of both worlds: a self-directed, self-serve option as well as easy access to a contact person or account manager to answer questions. We evaluated multiple PEOs and no one else had this flexibility. JustWorks also supports all the additional services you'd expect, health benefits that are equivalent to a large organization, insurance etc. I would highly recommend JustWorks for any startup at its earliest stage to a growing one.

Pros

  • Enrollment - both self serve and access to a person to help
  • Communication - email communication with updates and explanations
  • Easy to use web portal - information at the administrator's and user's fingertips

Cons

  • Value proposition - understanding why JustWorks is better than other PEOs
  • Aggregated user logins - if you have worked in multiple companies with multiple JustWorks accounts, you need a unique one for each company which can get confusing

Likelihood to Recommend

As I have only used JustWorks at 3 different companies all of less than 30 employees, I am not equipped to access how it scales to companies of 100+ users. For SMBs, I have found that they are the best after evaluating 4 different PEOs in terms of ease of use and the breadth of what they offer.

For small businesses, Justworks just works!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Justworks is basically our entire HR portal. It's where we run payroll, where we decide upon and check on benefits, and where we put some company documents regarding HR protocols. Our entire company uses it and it makes it very easy to run payroll without any hassle. We are also able to distinguish between hourly, salary, and contractors each payroll with ease.

Pros

  • Running Payroll
  • Choosing and Checking on Benefits
  • Setting company standards

Cons

  • Sometimes slow on response times
  • Sending Admin emails
  • Better visibility into potential benefits

Likelihood to Recommend

This is completely appropriate for smaller businesses like us. However, if you are at a business with an in-house HR solution this is probably not the best fit. JustWorks is our entire HR portal and we wouldn't be able to easily and quickly find benefits or run payroll without it.

Great at first...

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My public accounting firm uses Justworks for payroll and HR currently. We previously used them for 401k and insurance as well. Justworks served as the full-service payroll and human resource provider so that we did not need to internally hire such a position. Additionally, for a time, we had an advantage of lower health insurance premiums despite our size due to being part of the larger group.

Pros

  • Online processing
  • Online reports
  • Staying on top of payroll related regulations

Cons

  • Communication in sufficient time related to a large increase in medical insurance premiums
  • Our customer service rep was not knowledgeable enough in explaining the medical insurance options

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited to smaller professional companies who desire to outsource all payroll and human resource functions, including employee benefits. Where I am less than thrilled is with how the annual medical insurance renewal was handled. The customer service rep was not sufficiently knowledgeable to explain correctly the differences in the various plan options.

Solid PEO offering with great compliance support

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

JustWorks is our PEO/HR and compliance and benefits and payroll platform. It's used by HR for administering headcount, benefits, running payroll, etc. It's used by all employees for configuring their employment accounts, electing benefits, etc.

Using a PEO instead of a standard payroll provider gives us more flexibility for multi state hires, and provides more competitive insurance rates.

Pros

  • HR Compliance and Support
  • Payroll
  • Benefits Administration

Cons

  • Mobile app
  • API/Automation
  • Expense reimbursement

Likelihood to Recommend

Businesses looking to hire US based employees but who want to remain compliant in multiple states.

Businesses growing quickly can use their HR support. It's quite a bit more expensive than Gusto or other payroll providers but the insurance benefits can help a bit.

Great user experience and employee support

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is being used across the whole organization by all employees. It is our central human resources information system, used for payroll, benefits, time off, compliance trainings, company directory, company calendar.

Pros

  • Comprehensive benefits information and support for our employees
  • Very intuitive user interface

Cons

  • There are certain functions that I cannot complete that must be done on the back end by our account manager. It's sometimes frustrating to have to wait, though the response times are generally quick - within a business day or so.

Likelihood to Recommend

I have used three PEOs now in my career and I find JustWorks to be the most intuitive, user friendly, and the support they provide around benefits is outstanding.
