Looker Studio for PE backed companies.

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Looker Studio helps us track events and user data, such as Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, and Google Business Profile events. It allowed us to keep all of our customer tracking data in one place and update things as needed, including the dates we want to track.

Pros

  • Custom reporting.
  • Visually Appealing.
  • Data Integration.

Cons

  • Provide more free connectors, including Facebook, IG, etc.
  • Technical glitches happen often.

Likelihood to Recommend

Looker is well-suited for those who work with clients or businesses that require frequent updates to their reporting. It helps businesses grow by providing detailed data on customer behavior and search queries. From there, you are able to tweak certain campaigns. Once you create a report in Looker, simply change the dates to get updated reporting. It's less appropriate if you don't care much about customer data.

Solid dependable with a good UX for all levels

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Looker studio within my large global organization to create analytics dashboards of the online performance of our company websites - both b2c and b2b. We produce a lot of 'public data' i.e. content like blogs, reports, how tos, editorial pieces, articles etc. We sync Looker studio to our other tools like Dreamdata, salesforce dc etc. to help measure attribution of content to revenue. Our site dashboards are used by many teams around the business.

Pros

  • data visualisation
  • techstack integration
  • shareable dashboards
  • marketing funnel analytics support

Cons

  • sometimes dates don't update easily
  • not always responsive and quick enough
  • heavy page load
  • can't update everything to be in brand colours

Likelihood to Recommend

Based on my experience in a very large organisation where we have an analytics team and they need to share this data throughout the business in many global teams, Looker is well suited and appropriate. It means that people can self-serve the data they need at any time of day and don't need to hassle the team. It also means we can establish pre-set dashboards and reporting so that we can reduce duplication of work and speed up reporting time; thanks to integrations the data is there in always-on Looker studio reports for us to view.

Looker Looks Great for Google Services

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Looker is our BI choice for our Google software and services. It is the simplest way to create dashboards and Business Intelligence reporting for your Google marketing and advertising endeavors. Although there are many, many similar pieces of software on the market, we have found that no other reporting system provides feeds from our YouTube, Google Search Console, Analytics, and Google AdSense all in one tight package.

Pros

  • Reports from Google software and services data feeds
  • Creating simple, clean dashboards
  • Better reporting than AdWords or Google Analytics.

Cons

  • Documentation is scarce, and very difficult to find when you need it.
  • Pricing is unclear, particularly as you look to scale your reports across the business.
  • Data from other sources is not represented in the system as well as first party Google services.

Likelihood to Recommend

Looker is ideal if you are heavily invested in Google Services, particularly marketing related services, and you with to quickly create reporting dashboards for that data. It gets more difficult when you try to tie in data from other services, and I would not use this were I already using BI package - it is not anywhere near as well supported or as widely known as some of its major competitors, but what it does do, it does do well.

  • Analtyics

Likelihood to Recommend

I'll give it an 8-9. For a free tool, it has enough features and functionalities for business intelligence and data analysis.

Powerful Dashboards and Real-Time Analytics with Looker

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Looker is (usually) free and easy to set up using built-in connectors to Google's tools. Having a Looker dashboard is often easier to use and access than the default GA4 reports and Looker gives you the ability to add your own objectives using Google Sheet for example. and Looker is our go-to tool for reporting on all the users' data in our platforms.

Pros

  • Performance is solid, even with large datasets—it stays fast and responsive
  • Drag & Drop Data Querying
  • You can customize dashboards to fit your company’s specific needs.

Cons

  • Adding AI features would be a big plus.
  • Flexibility
  • Combining metrics and figuring out the percent change.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is far better to share data with "non-data people" or at a glance than with spreadsheets. It enables quicker decision-making by giving us real-time insights.

The best BI reporting option for Orgs in the G-Suite

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Looker is used as cross cross-functional reporting dashboard, for teams to keep track of important metrics, progress of projects and overall health of features and customer activity. Each board can be customized with your own built graphs and tables, making it easier to connect data and limiting the need for individuals to dig into analytic platforms or raw data - creating a central source of truth.

Pros

  • Connects data between different sources
  • Free/low cost option in the g-suite
  • easy/templated visuals to portray data

Cons

  • Comment/Discussion functionality could be improved
  • Limited ability for individual exploration of data beyond reports
  • more advanced visual customizations and graphs would be nice

Likelihood to Recommend

A great option for teams already in G-suite/Google Analytics, that are looking to create one central source of truth for reporting on product/project activity and health. Once built, tables are fairly intuitive to understand and share across your team. Multiple graphs and tables are easy to organize to ladder up into larger projects.

Data visualisation for a wide range of teams with ease and at a fraction of the cost

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it as a tool for data visualisation, to help key stakeholders understand how their products are performing, if there are any issues and which areas / pain points they need to focus on. This makes it easier to control access, simplify information and ensure there is an effective data strategy across our financial company

Pros

  • Visualisation
  • Filtering
  • Customising viewpoint
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Blending data can sometimes be difficult for new users
  • Replicating filters across various different reports
  • Easily and consistently applying your own branding and styles to each page

Likelihood to Recommend

I think it is easy to adopt and as long as an individual invests time to learn how to use the tool, you can do a lot with the data. It is appropriate if you have a large range of stakeholders who don’t have strong digital analytics skills or aren’t able to self serve the information for themselves or alternatively only need to see a snapshot of the information

Great budget-friendly option for reporting

Rating: 6 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I work as the head of data and marketing campaigns in a B2B marketing agency. We are agnostic, so we use whichever tools suit the client best or what they prefer. I have a client which uses Looker studio for there reporting for a large company which has many countries.

Pros

  • Filters for regions and countries
  • Easy to use interface
  • Quite a few integrations

Cons

  • It is really slow
  • It can lag and not save updates
  • It is limited in integrations outside of the Google universe

Likelihood to Recommend

I think Looker is very well suited to smaller two mid size businesses which do not have the budget or access to other technology. It can allow for automated reports which are handy and offers a lot for free. It also allows you to pull in a lot go the Google stack into one dashboard which is great for stakeholders or if managers are short on time. There are templates as well which are great.

Love the cross-channel reporting

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Looker as a reporting tool for clients. Not all clients but those where we want to be able to connect multiple data sources and more unique metrics into the one report or dashboard.

Pros

  • It integrates with data sources really well if you have the know-how
  • The dashboards provide fully interactive reports for all stakeholders
  • I also appreciate the ability to create custom metrics and dimensions

Cons

  • It's not so easy to set up with little knowledge
  • Predictive features would be great
  • Responsive reports would be great too

Likelihood to Recommend

When you need to create a centralised dashboard for multiple stakeholders that blends cross-channel reporting. As an SEO agency reporting for clients - Looker is a great solution.

It's less appropriate depending on the intended users. For instance, in my experience Looker reports have been under-utilised because they're not accessed regularly, provide too much noise or often simple PDF reports are preferred.

Looker The Market Leader for a Reason

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Looker is our main business intelligence tool that we use for for self-service analytics, pulling raw data for use with other tools, creating dashboards and reports, and for generating data visualizations. It's used across domains in our company for a multitude of use cases such as product, revenue, and operations analytics.

Pros

  • Drag & Drop Data Querying
  • Charts / Visualizations
  • Dashboards

Cons

  • Flexibility
  • Governance Features

Likelihood to Recommend

I think Looker is really good for most mid-size and larger companies. There are cheaper tools on the market, but you get what you pay for when it comes to analytics. A smaller company could maybe make do with less, but Looker is a market leader and comes highly recommended.
