Support onboarding and reporting lackluster

Rating: 1 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use SendGrid to send around 1.5-2M marketing emails monthly. We use the Marketing tool so that our production team can easily create messages without knowing complex HTML. We have setup an API sync to another database which populates a few custom fields. We also try to use the analytics tool.

Pros

  • Drag and drop message building is streamlined

Cons

  • Ineffective support. Instead of answering a question or even looking at your account, they ask constant questions until you have to give up and use AI searches outside of SendGrid. Support has no insight into what's happening in your tool so there would be no way for them to answer correctly. You can only have one person who is notified of any support case update. In our case, this is the contract signer and he isn't actively using the tools or submitted support cases. He has to forward the emails which is really strange and inefficient. We were told by our Sales Exec that we are super needy and should consider paying for premium support b/c we have submitted 18 support cases in 7 months.
  • Constant technical issues like imports simply not happening
  • Onboarding was non-existent
  • Query-based segments can only be built/refreshed once daily
  • Contact records don't have any history such as bounced, complained, messages sent
  • Segments and lists don't have details such as who in that group have bounced, opted out, complained. You never know exactly how many people will receive your message until after you send it. You can't see a snapshot of your target audience group size.
  • Creating permissions for teammates is a nightmare. You can't use the subuser functionality if a teammate needs access to more than one subuser account because email addresses must be unique. You can't limit permissions for teammates unless you use SSO.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you're prepared to build out your whole staff UX, audience creation, email production, and analytics on your own using API, this tool may have that flexibility. If you require a sturdy drag and drop production tool, this tool has it but at the expense of a lot of other critical functionality. Out of the box analytics/reporting, is extremely limited. Complex queries, even something like pulling those who haven't engaged in email within a certain time period, is clunky. If you require any support at all, this is not the tool for you. I'm a deliverability consultant and have used many of the top email marketing tools and SendGrid has been extremely difficult for my team. I do not recommend it. Shiny and bright during sales, pretty disappointing thereafter.

Reliable marketing email tool

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Twilio SendGrid as an email marketing tool for sending marketing nurture emails to every ICP prospect of ours. The business problems the product addresses is sending of mass emails and configuring and warming up new domains for sending those mass emails. Scope of our use case is only for marketing nurtures.

Pros

  • Sending mass emails
  • Tracking deliverability, opens and click rates
  • Giving us domain reputation score

Cons

  • Ease of use and user-friendliness
  • Better integration features with Salesforce
  • Data accuracy in click rates

Likelihood to Recommend

Twilio SendGrid is well suited for those organizations who need to send mass emails very often to their prospects and customers and thus may be wary of a reliable tool that can do that without affecting domain reputation. It may be less suited for organizations which do not have say more than 10,000 target prospects and thus may rely only on 1:few ABM for sending emails.

Great for sending transactional emails

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were looking to send transactional emails for our billing and payment stuff. That is where Twilio SendGrid came in. We wanted to send real time notification of all the billing to our customers and I heard really good things about Twilio API. The major problem we were looking to solve is great user experience to our customers. Twilio API was the perfect solution for it. Especially when the emails land directly to the inbox. Too good.

Pros

  • Perfect email delivery to inbox
  • Easy to use Twilio API
  • Easy to use, onboarding is nice
  • Good trust factor

Cons

  • Require more campaign templates for marketing
  • More customizable variables in the email for personalization
  • Pricing can be more friendly

Likelihood to Recommend

Twilio SendGrid is well suited for transactional and marketing campaigns. Especially if someone wants a good open and click rate, this is really good. This is not appropriate for cold email campaigns. Also, there are a lot of customizations available for transactional campaigns. So your customers can definitely have a good experience.

Twilio SendGrid is a good solution

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Twilio SendGrid to send Email messages to prospects that have come in via digital ads such as Facebook, Google and LinkedIn. We use Twilio SendGrid to provide information and confirm details / reminders of upcoming appointments. We also use Twilio SendGrid for follow up comms after meetings have taken place and for product promotions.

Pros

  • Integrates well into CRMs
  • Good deliverability
  • Good metrics

Cons

  • More complex automations
  • Better UX
  • Easier set up

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for multi-channel marketing campaigns, as it intergates into CRMs. For example, we may use SendGrid to send emails as part of a larger campaign, and use Twilio for SMS etc. I wouldnt say it is well suited as a standalone email platform, as for marketing agencies, you are looking for more complex marketing automations.

Good Service Weak Team

Rating: 3 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Twillio for 2FA and also customer service touch point messages. Our site handles thousands of 2FA requests per day and a large number of sms Customer Success messages. We have used Twillio for over 3 years.

Pros

  • The API is well documentated and easy to get up and running
  • The service is reliable
  • The service is fast and effective

Cons

  • Customer Care is poor in my experience. They begin most customer issues by turning your service off. It takes a long time to get connected to the right person to fix your problem
  • I feel the worst team at Twillio is the 'Compliance' department. They are the epitomy of Success Prevention.
  • I believe Billing is ridicoulous - Be ready to see your business accounts spammed with hundreds of small one off payments making your normal business accounts unreadable.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great Technology Weak TeamWhen we started using Twilio 4 years ago, it was the clear leader in terms of API capability and integration into our web facing aps. Sadly every touch point that requires interaction with a person to resolve is a sad 'success prevention' in my experience. To give you some example of how you will be treated if you decide to use their service, be ready to learn about simple problems by seeing your account throttled to uselessness as their first measure followed by an email telling you they have done it and then expect 2-5 days of trying to find a person who can actually get things back up and running. If you don't expect to need to interact with the Twilio team, then I would say this is the product for you! But if you think customer service might be needed occasionally I would run away from them as fast as possible.

In my experience, Unbelievable incompetent support and systems are brokan in multiple places

Rating: 1 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Marketing email campaigns - sending to over 40,000 customers

Pros

  • To me, their spam testers seem good
  • and drag and drop editors
  • flexibility with custom fields etc

Cons

  • In my opinion, their support is terrible
  • I think their systems are broken in multiple places ( especially around support )

Likelihood to Recommend

I cannot believe that a company this size can be so incompetent. I worked through transferring my contacts ( 40,000+) from a competitor. I had several emails back and forth with them because of technical issues with adding people to the unsubscribe list. We spent a long time setting it up and then I sent the campaign. They stopped it after sending 9,000 emails saying there is "unusual activity in your account". There was no unusual activity - they are all legit. I contacted them via support ticket. They open my support ticket each time I sent it ( I can track their emails) - but they don't reply. I cannot contact them via chat online because it's broken and I cannot even create another ticket because "something went wrong". Unbelievable frustrating and incompetent. What sort of system is this? I believe I will be changing again shortly.

The top email service provider for promotional and business communications.

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Sendgrid to send high-volume email marketing campaigns that are automated in nature. Its reports and analytics help us keep track of deliverability and email performance. Its template library is a widely used feature in my organization.

We chose Sendgrid in place of Mailchimp because of the robust reporting and the integrations it offers. Needless to say, it offers one of the best data security in the market.

Pros

  • Helps send bulk emails with good deliverability rates
  • Robust analytics and data reporting
  • Mobile and desktop friendly

Cons

  • The UI can be improved and made more user friendly for the beginners
  • The slab based pricing and the features associated can be improved. Basic plan doesn't have a lot of key features.
  • Detailed product documentation will be really helpful

Likelihood to Recommend

If a business has a requirement to send bulk emails at scale, then Sendgrid is the best option available. It will generate a positive ROI for the company. However, if your business is small or you do not have a requirement to send bulk emails consistently, I suggest you look for an alternative, as the money spent on the product won't justify the ROI.

A reliable way to send emails in volume from our web-based application

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Twilio SendGrid for transactional email delivery on our SaaS platform, in particular, we use it as an external SMTP relay from the Google Cloud Platform architecture. Our web-based application sends out notifications, for instance, when a particular document or news article is updated or when a course is completed and we then use the SendGrid API to send that notification out to each user's email address. The great thing is that we can use it as a single-pane view of all emails sent from our platform, so that we can track any issues with delivery to an email, as well as any potential problems with the reputation of our SendGrid relay.

Pros

  • Transactional Email
  • Easy to administrate
  • Logging and auditing
  • Clear error messages for our team when investigating missing emails

Cons

  • Limitation on number of API keys/sub-users

Likelihood to Recommend

I'd say that SendGrid is well suited to both small and large businesses, looking to send a large amount of emails where deliverability and tracking is important.

I don't think it would be suitable for any company only sending a small volume of emails.

Your go to email marketing platform.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We’ve been using SendGrid to run email marketing campaigns and validation of lists. Sendgrid has helped us reduce the time for creating and scheduling of campaigns, and we can easily track clicks, opt-in, and remove unsubscribes from the list. The feature of adding our own unsubscribe links makes this product stand out from others in similar spaces.

Pros

  • Allows to add own unsubscribe link.
  • Easy scheduling of campaigns.
  • User friendly dashboard and processes.

Cons

  • If it can allow or increase monthly sends.

Likelihood to Recommend

Suited to send highly customized HTML or text emails with appropriate measures to have data security and privacy measures followed.

Really easy to use and integrate with other tools.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used Sendgrid since before Twilio purchased the business to send transactional emails to customers. We used it for welcome emails, password reset emails, MFA tokens, and general notifications. I've used Sendgrid in quite a few organizations - it's extremely easy to use and offers you the ability to connect through API or via SMTP, so it's really flexible.

Pros

  • Multiple connection options - API and SMTP.
  • Really easy to use.
  • Excellent documentation.
  • UI is very user friendly.

Cons

  • Integrated billing with Twilio.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think Sendgrid is a great tool for sending out emails of all types. I've primarily used it for transactional emails as we've had other solutions for marketing emails, but I'm sure it would do just a good job - there is a "Marketing" section within the app you can use. Sendgrid integrates really easily with the development frameworks I've used, such as Laravel and Lumen; I've also integrated it with Moodle with ease.
