Overall Satisfaction with Apache HTTP Server

Apache HTTP Server is our web server of choice for all of our projects. We use it to host our company website, client websites, development sites, and lots of personal projects. Its been our go-to thanks to its familiarity, maturity, reliability, and ease of use.
  • Ease of use
  • Well documented
  • Mature
  • Optimization
  • Not as flexible as new alternatives.
  • Free
  • Easy to find documentation means less training.
  • It's been around so long that there is a good chance someone has tried something similar to what you are doing.
Apache lacks the scalability and feature set of NGINX but our team was not only far more experienced with Apache HTTP Server but was relying on tools and frameworks that required Apache HTTP Server. We've recently considered moving to NGINX but the workload to migrate and train isn't currently worth it. We only run Linux so IIS is not an option. It's not worth moving to a less reliable, resource-hungry, and expensive operating system just to get the ability to use ASP.

Do you think Apache HTTP Server delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Apache HTTP Server's feature set?

Yes

Did Apache HTTP Server live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Apache HTTP Server go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Apache HTTP Server again?

Yes

Apache HTTP Server is great for smaller projects or for those who just want to pop a file in and watch it change. Apache is very old school in this regard which has its benefits over more application-driven servers but makes it not as flexible. Apache also doesn't scale very well as you need more complex stuff and have more users.
