Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am the Sales leader at my organization and we use Apollo.io for lead gen contact info. I use only the free version for getting leads on websites and from LinkedIn. I use their free database for finding contacts from organizations that I need to get in touch with and verifying contact info.

I think all of competitor services use the same database, but Apollo.io is the cheapest and easiest to use with LinkedIn

I recommend Apollo.io when people have difficulty getting contact info for people they know they want to reach out to. Apollo.io is also good for tracking emails and creating a multi-message sales funnel. I would not use Apollo.io as my CRM database, but I know they have this feature. They are missing contact info for some smaller organizations.
