Overall Satisfaction with Apollo.io

Apollo solves 3 primary use cases for us in CARTO. Inbound & Outbound prospect sequencing and data enrichment. It is our primary tool alongside LinkedIn for generating active conversations.

In the past we used Apollo for only contact data enrichment, but when we recently re-signed with the platform we started using it with a wider to scope and as a replacement for LeadIQ, Outreach and DnB.

Pros

  • Consolidates tool and packs in a lot of functionality
  • Keeps up with the industry trends for prospecting and data enrichment
  • Offers the basics you need to get going
  • Account mapping to Salesforce - reps can prospect in Apollo and can easily toggle on views to only see their own accounts.

Cons

  • Dialler - We have struggled with the dialler functionality and connectivity with Twilio
  • LinkedIn - The LinkedIn connection pushes to regular LinkedIn rather than SalesNav, so we needed to set all LinkedIn sequence steps as "Action Item" (tasks).
  • Filtering - Apollo starts on people and companies with massive lists of options and the strategy it can push people towards is more bulk prospecting VS precision.
  • It has had a net ROI in terms of upfront cost, but is too early to tie to revenue generation
They are consolidating multiple tools into one, and with that things can become messy very fast. The tool has pretty tight admin control so it is possible to manage this with close attention. As there are less tools to use, it helps give reps time back from context switching which does make it more usable.
I selected Apollo because it had good all round email availability and relative parity with more specialised outreach platforms. The bounce rate on emails and the number availability across EMEA, North America and APAC were all at a level the reps were happy with, without the premium price tag of other providers. Apollo strikes a good balance between data quality, price and functionality.

Apollo is well suited if: 1) You have existing accounts you would like to enrich or a lot of legacy records in your CRM you would like to refresh 2) You have a bloated sales stack and a shrinking sales team i.e. everyone is wasting time context switching VS taking prospecting actions 3) You have full cycle reps where they need to both open and close pipeline or where you have an existing book of business with accounts where there are lots of expansion opportunities.

Apollo is less well suited if: 1) You have the option to invest heavily in rev-ops and the headcount to manage multiple specialised tools 2) You want a really clean UX or already struggle to keep things organised with prospecting and data enrichment. 3) You want a connection with some platforms like Gong.
