A great tool losing its footprint and immense growth prospects due to a terrible licensing model and unwilllingness to collaborate with customers.

Overall Satisfaction with Appian

Excellent support team.
Orchestration of complex workflows with multiple teams involving IT and other teams.
  • Getting from requirement to design and/or prototype really fast.
  • Good at complex workflows.
  • Out of the box standard reporting.
  • Terrible licensing model which tends to be too expensive upfront - which has stifled the growth despite a lot of interest from many business units - teams loved the tool but moved away even from considering the application after hearing about pricing - which prevented Appian being eventually used across the company.
  • No negative impact on areas we used.
  • ITSM MyIT, IBM Blueworks and Kinetic Data
Appian will easily top all three above but lost to each in a number of areas simply because of licensing cost and unwillingness from Appian side to come to the table to work for a middle ground on licensing cost.
Because of the too high licensing cost, I have not considered Appian for growth areas where there are a large number of users. Appian was only considered for areas where there were very few users, essentially limiting the Appian footprint and growth within the company.
