Overall Satisfaction with Appian

Would like a more personal support mechanism (i.e. if a ticket has gone back and forth, say 3 times, and still not resolved, people should get on the phone).
Used by Master Data department to manage master data processes and used by our product management group to manage their processes.
  • Process centric management of data and tasks
  • Speed of solution development and change
  • Tracking of process execution fro optimization and performance
  • Dynamic data driven forms and processes
  • Service and workforce management of activities and collaboration to speed decision making and issue resolution
  • Licensing model is too restrictive both from a purchasing perspective (blocks) as well as cost for use (need license even if the only step in a process is to approve or initiate something).
  • The memory database should archive process execution results to a SQL database versus needed to build this to reporting analysis and trending reports for process metrics.
  • Canned reporting should be available for process metrics so these do not need to be built, i.e. this is a BPM tool so I should be able to report on metrics not just what is current or completed in the memory database but for whatever timeframe I decide to keep.
  • Improved support model in which you can talk to someone versus submitting ticket and getting bogus responses.
  • Master data process increased speed of processes 50%.
  • Product management processes increased timely information by 25% faster with decision making.
  • Improved accuracy of data across the enterprise as reduced issues by 20%.
Have evaluated a number. Pegasystems and others are similar but use scripting languages a lot which requires technical knowledge to apply. Appian's improvements on the dynamic forms have greatly improved the functionality but there are some improvements there. I think if Appian had a form process flow designer that would be for specifically the form that worked in conjunction to the process flow designer I think that would be awesome for point and click form design and logic development.
[Appian is well suited for] Cross application business processes and management of those. Exception management/decision making through ongoing monitoring of data is a big benefit especially if looking or comparing data between business applications.

Least suited to replacing enterprise commercial applications.
