Overall Satisfaction with Appian

The account team have been very responsive to our questions, concerns and recommendations. The technical support has been generally very responsive and engaged in assisting us in finding solutions to reported problems. Posting queries on the forum has also been an effective way to get guidance from other practitioners on their best practices.
Appian is used across the entire organization as a business service integration and workflow enabling toolset. It enables us to quickly develop new integration points where human-machine-human interactions need to occur and to dynamically change those when the business need changes. This platform is utilized for both small scale tool development and large scale multi-system integration development of systems.
  • The application builder tool enables you to quickly shell out a brand new application with well constructed components.
  • The process modeler tool is intuitive and includes debugging and monitoring capabilities.
  • Appian incorporates enhancement suggestions into their base platform on a regular basis. New versions are released a few times each year and patches are made available quickly when issues are reported.
  • Appian should embrace open source relational database technology. The platform appears to integrate well with PostGreSQL, but the vendor does not currently support this.
  • The ROI of the overall platform has been positive.
  • ROI of specific projects utilizing the Appian platform have been high enough to get on the approved list of work to be performed.
All 3 platforms we looked at met our requirements. The Pega Platform was rejected due to lack of ecosystem partners and consultant availability as well as price. The IBM platform was a very strong offering but a little less open on integration to non-IBM databases and systems. The Appian platform didn't have as broad of an ecosystem as we would have liked, but it has shown steady growth, and this platform is far more open than the other two. The price of the Appian platform was also the best of the ones we evaluated.
Appian is an ideal business process management platform when multiple role-based actions are required to complete a business function, and especially where there are human decisions to be made in the routing of work required to complete a business process. The Appian platform works well for small point solutions as well as large scale integrations between several applications (either through data layer integration, web service or other standard API). Appian is not the best tool if the system being engineered does not have an end-user interaction.
