In 2024 we continue to use it for well-documented process mapping systems based on data from each job according to the instructions of the project manager. We have been doing this successfully since 2020. IBM Blueworks Live is completely online and we do not need complex software downloads or installations, our communication with the business process execution team is real time and we do not have to be on email, we do this directly in the software.
  • Easy online access.
  • Communication is direct.
  • It does not require download processes.
It is essential to have a broad portfolio of IBM services to obtain more robust business processes with better scope such as Kubernetes and Watson, this would be to have better reach, there are other portfolios that are used and my recommendation is that they used the greatest amount according to internal needs .

I use Blueworks to develop process maps of business processes and technology workflows.
  • Easy to create process diagrams quickly, while collaborating with others.
  • Create linkages to sub-processes and other workflows.
  • Track activities using metadata such as which IT systems are utilized.
  • Use the glossary terms to find where different roles or systems are involved in processes throughout your org.
  • I wish there were more options for activity-type icons besides just activities and gateway diamonds.
  • I really wish IBM would fix the way the icons for Activity Type, such as "Robot Task" or "Service Task," appear in the corner of the activity box in a way that often overlaps the text description so you can't read it.
  • It's a silly thing, but for darker color coding shades, the text should turn to white for the legibility of the text. It is hard to read when some colors are applied.
It's an excellent tool for quickly creating detailed process maps and diagrams on the fly right when you're collaborating on process design or changes. I love the ability to step through a path using the Playback mode. The glossary and use of metadata in the documentation for process steps create a lot of useful analysis and reporting options. If you commit to using Blueworks across a whole team/dept's workflows, you can get some great insights on process opportunities (automation?) and challenges very efficiently.

IBM Blueworks Live is a cloud-based business process modeling tool that we use for our Cloud-based needs. We are able to design organizations' documents, analyze them, and improve business processes collaboratively. IBM Blueworks also helps in tool design to facilitate collaboration among team members and stakeholders. Multiple users can work together on process documentation, share insights, and provide feedback in real time.

  • Automation and Workflow.
  • Versioning and History.
  • Collaboration
  • Reporting and Analytics.
  • Customization Options.
  • Enhanced Collaboration Features.
Blueworks Live is highly effective for organizations that need a centralized platform to document and visualize their business processes. It allows teams to create clear and standardized process models using BPMN notation. Blueworks Live is well-suited for organizations that prioritize continuous process monitoring and analysis. Users can track changes in process models over time, analyze performance, and identify areas for optimization.

We´ve been using IBM Blueworks Live to map business processes and easily generate content to support the creation of learning content for training programs of our clients. The product is very helpful to provide a collaborative environment with powerful features and has an intuitive interface. Actually our mapping process is more optimized and easier to manage.
  • User-friendly interface
  • Collaborative features
  • Process analysis and optimization features
  • It could have more advanced modeling features
  • Lack of customization options for reports and dashboards
  • Better support for offline access and sync options
I believe that IBM Blueworks Live is an excellent choice for teams or projects where there is a constant need for collaboration, especially in remote settings. The cloud environment is certainly a significant advantage in this scenario. The product is good enough for mapping processes of any type and complexity. It's worth noting that in mapping projects involving compliance or governance issues, the product offers specific features that are quite useful.

We use IBM Blueworks at our organization to assist with discovering new and documenting our business processes, business decisions and policies to collaborate! It's better to have it all in one place instead of across multiple applications!
  • Improves digital workflow.
  • Automating decisions.
  • Live features.
  • Login issues.
  • Invitation mail is not always received.
  • Workflows are confusing.
I do find IBM Blueworks Live is overall well suited! We are a federal government contractor constantly updating our business processes to align with federal regulations. Blueworks Live helps streamline our process due to the collaboration and maintenance of records in one place.

We are using IBM Blueworks Live to document the business processes, in a decentralized way. The tool is basically accessible by many stakeholders with different authorizations (Edits, View, admin)
The tool has multiple capabilities, and offer a variety of flexible ways to deisgn business processes and attach specific documentation to each step on the process.
In addition, this is a cloud based solution which offer accessible documentation with ease.
  • Business Process Design
  • Collaborative documentation
  • Sustainable way to keep the documentation up to date
  • Import / Export on specific reusable format
  • Integration with tools such as Sharepoint
The IBM Blueworks Live is a powerful, cloud based solution, which enables the business stakeholders to document their business processes in a collaborative way, which makes also the update easy and sustainable. The tool also enables the attachments at each step of the process.
The Import / export from/to existing acceptable format can also make the documentation effort simple and easy.

I use Blueworks to work with my team on credit monitoring tasks so I can more easily manage documents, assign tasks and monitor our processes and workflow. Some problems we have had with the tool are generally related to its frequent (temporary) crashes as a website.
  • Facilitates teamwork.
  • Simplifies user interaction with documents and tasks.
  • Promotes order in tasks.
  • Helps save time by allowing assignment of tasks and creation of custom workflows.
  • In particular, we have had problems with the availability of the service because the platform frequently crashed.
  • Is not easy to pull some indicators.
  • We would like to be able to see a different interface, long ago with the same.
  • Payment process is not easy.
Blueworks Live is well suited, for teams with a big number of integrants and when they all have to interact with the same process. And I think that would not be appropriate to create reminders, or organize the activities of the week, for example, a list of things to do.

I've used Blueworks Live to document and share business processes during a free trial. Once I saw all that it really did, I loved it even more. I just wish that it integrated with Microsoft Sharepoint and Microsoft Power Automate. There is some overlap in their functions, but I like the way Blueworks Live has it laid out.
  • Business flow design
  • Automated processes
  • Project and task management
  • Design is nice and simple but could be modernized
  • I wish it could integrate with other software
This was great for designing and executing business processes. The major downfall is onboarding a team. The Microsoft environment is much more suited for our needs in other areas. It would be too much to ask a team to use another software outside of that environment if Microsoft has comparable solutions. If this could integrate with Microsoft products, even something simple like Outlook calendars for tasks/reminders, I could make a case for its implementation.

  • You can operate it anywhere through a browser because it is cloud based.
  • There is no need to download it. It is easy to use and reliable platform.
  • Whole team can take part in business improvement.
  • Support gives reliable assistance.
  • Sometimes problems occur in sharing information to different devices.
  • Not effective for complicated processes.
You can use this management tool to make innovative business plans. It allows you to select the ideas that suit the best for your business requirements. All members of the team can put their efforts to rank high in the business industry.

In our sales department, we use Blueworks Live to map out our sales process. We are able to break down the process and visually see how things are being done. By visually seeing the process, we are able to pinpoint our faults and improve upon these things in the process. By using Blueworks Live, we are able to make sure our process is fool-proof and strong.
  • Cloud-based
  • Very Intuitive tool
  • Documentation
  • Loading can be slow
  • Customization of reports
  • Analytics can be improved
Blueworks Live is a software suited for companies that are trying to map out their business process. One can break down their process to whatever detail one wishes, and one can see it down to the microscopic detail. By seeing a process so detailed, we are able to see where something might be holding something else up, and we can then improve on that to make the whole process a little smoother.

We use this as a tool to help us capture processes within our organization. It helps us collaborate as a team and perhaps even more importantly, document our decisions and next steps. We also rely heavily on the ability to crate and then share that work with other team members—at which point they can edit, provide feedback, etc.
  • Allows team members to work within their Space and then share that work with others
  • Export/print artifacts and space activity data
  • Create workflows and process blueprints
  • The playback feature can be a little buggy at times and could use some more speed as well.
  • It can be a little hard to navigate the many many menus and sub-menus
  • The search/filter feature could use some fine-tuning. It doesn’t always return the expected results
It’s a great tool if you have a small to medium sized company. I wish we’d started using it sooner because May processes and decisions made during meetings (for example) went undocumented. We’re now able to track these kinds of things much more efficiently. I don’t know if it would work as well with large companies because I haven’t experienced it in that setting.

Blueworks Live is used as a business process modeler and management platform. It is generally forced onto customers on any large project that is led by IBM, since this is their standard solution for process modelling and helps their team deploy predefined templates and practices - as well as accelerating the project time-to-market.
  • Out-of-the-box integration with the IBM Suite
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use for any business analyst
  • Lots of options to work with Microsoft products
  • Pricing is prohibitive for any non-Large Enterprise customer
  • User experience is very dated
  • Not a true BPMN2 modeler so you'll have a hard time migrating to another solution later on
It's hard to recommend a tool that does not follow the universal industry standard (BPMN2). Like Visio, it looks and feels like the standard is respected (shapes, naming convention, etc.) but Blueworks Live does not in fact follow any of it. It is a good tool for any company that is primarily looking at drawing diagrams (e.g., export them as images), as opposed to building live processes.

As support and documentation in RPA design, delivery and operations.
  • Design: to help customer to define any detail of the process to be automated
  • Delivery: to share any detail of the automation.
  • Operations: to manage the released automation and change management.
Sometimes it is a sales leverage to engage customers.
  • Sharing jobs in the company
  • To engage customer
  • To record any detail in order to define processes
  • Managing other documentation
  • Insert and retrieve attributes on task and subtask
  • Inheritance between task and subtask
It's a good choice if people have experience with other Process Documentation tools or if you need to document processes in simple and effective way. It's not so good if people have no previous experience with other tools or if they need a deep and structured approach. It's bad if people don't think documentation issues matter or they don't want change their behaviour.

Blueworks is being used by the complete organization across the globe to suggest leading practices that we have already modeled in the tool and also to model our client's complete processes. This in turn helps to do gap analysis between current state and target state and identify improvement areas for them. Because of its ease of use, it is a preferred tool for many of our clients.
  • Cloud based, hence quick and easy access without any installation requirement
  • Easy and intuitive, making modeling much easier
  • Visio import is one of the best in Blueworks
  • Low cost compared to some other tools in the market
  • User management is quite easy from an admin perspective
  • Ability to customize reports like change the layout if required
  • To add more BPMN symbols (at least task types like script task)
  • Ability to create pools in BPMN diagram, or else it cannot be integreated with SAP SolMan
Blueworks is well suited when only process modeling needs to be done, when processes from Visio need to be converted, and when end to end integrated flows need to be created

It's less appropriate when enterprise-wide architecture modeling is needed like org charts, application architecture, if it has to be integrated with SAP SolMan, and when simulation needs to be done.

We have utilized Blueworks Live for creating and managing RPA and Lean Data Process enhancements through workspaces and flowcharts. We also create milestone 7x7 diagrams. It makes all of our assignments so much easier to edit and control in one place. It does take a few minutes to go through the tutorial but is easy after that.
  • RPA design documents
  • Manage user stories, data and milestones
  • Create workflows with ease
  • Could be a bit more user friendly
Very well suited for not only BA work but also for RPA dev design documents.

Blueworks Live is used depending on the customer needs and therefore not constantly used in every department. However, it is permanent in the advisory department.
  • It allows us to discover, capture, and document processes in a simple way.
  • Super simple method to process documentation and discovery.
  • Limitations in sharing and exporting to different applications.
  • I feel that changes only get made after a competitor comes out with a new model or feature.
Blueworks makes it easy to edit and update processes and share with others. However, it is missing third party connectors. Process maps are invisible to end-users unless they have a viewer licence. It is also difficult to share maps across the organisation without a dedicated BPM system.

We use it across the whole organization. We had a problem with the mapping of our business processes. In our industry, we currently have a lot of issues regarding our creation path to release our content online ASAP. With Blueworks Live, we establish a single business process between all the members of the staff and everybody stays in the loop.
  • Upgraded our team and business communication!
  • All on the cloud, so no downloads or heavy hardware.
  • Would like to see more interface personalization options.
You can use Blueworks Live to make better decisions and to really achieve better results inside your organization. I think a company can't be better than it's own processes. Creating a unique path to creating value is the best thing to do nowadays. Blueworks can help you to do that with its intuitive interface.

It is used by the Transport Department.
  • Easy use of cloud
  • All users can contribute to process improvement.
  • It enables business users to discover and document processes simply.
  • It needs a high level of skills
  • It is challenging to design, configure and deploy.
It is suited in big organizations and less suited in small projects using the on-premises IBM products.

We use Blueworks Live to map many of our business processes. We are starting to use it together with other business functions, using it as a collaboration tool.
  • It is a very simple tool.
  • It allows you to define roles and responsibilities and identify where a particular process, system, input, or activity is used.
  • Reporting should be improved to allow you to select the attributes to be downloaded (in Word files) and attributes from connected (in Excel).
  • In the diagrams, it should allow you to design the connectors yourself.
We use Blueworks for mapping industry, financials, and claims processes.

Our company uses it to capture processes and decisions for our clients. We use it with many clients in various industries. Lack of managing policies, processes, and decisions that are key business assets.
  • Business user-friendly - most business people can start to utilize BWL very quickly.
  • Easy way to capture and build processes starting with the discovery map.
  • Central repository for a single truth for areas to go to. Business architects can understand the current process and begin to do to-be models. Business Analysts can know where to go and start to get the current as-Is model, rather than spending time and effort trying to capture the information from SMEs to just get a project started.
  • Analytics - the ability to have more robust analytics. For processes being able to get information about the metadata and to be able to export that information. In addition, being able to capture end-to-end processes, sub-processes, and linked processes. To get the analytics across that value chain. To be able to export that for various areas to do analysis, problems, and opportunities.
  • Reporting - Being able to have reported. For such a business-facing tool, the reporting capabilities are non-existent. This to me is a drawback to more adoption by the business. Business shouldn't have to go to IT to build reports using APIs.
  • CM - Being able to capture content in BWL. Keeping pace with Digital Business Automation means BWL has to be enhanced to stay current. I feel that changes get made only after a competitor comes out with a new model capturing ability. BWL can be a great tool and should be invested in and improved with innovations not just catch up.
  • Create the ability to ingest Decisions into IBM ODM product.
BWL is a great tool that can easily be used by business customers. It also is a great tool to build a Center of Excellence - providing customers the ability to manage their policies, processes, and decisions in one location. A single source of truth that can be leveraged to meet compliance, understand where information is being used, analysis of where laws and regulations impact processes and decisions. A tool to be leveraged to maintain knowledge and provide the ability to transfer knowledge to new employees. Organizations that used this tool to maintain and manage these assets will be able to make changes more rapidly and have confidence in the decisions they make because the tool is the single source of truth. BWL provides the tool to build a culture of continuous improvement and optimization within an organization that is willing to implement the discipline that goes along with the tool. BWL should be the central tool for all change management, lean six sigma, TQM and any other method or approach used by an organization.

Blueworks Live is primarily used as our internal documentation tool for business processes across all vendors in the DPA space. It allows my teams to collaborate on design and document processes-- agnostic of platforms-- easily and concisely.
  • Document business processes.
  • It has a unique ability to document KPIs and provide playback of the process to the business.
  • Live capture of requirements synced simultaneously across users.
  • It doesn't support very complicated processes.
Blueworks Live is really good for documenting processes, however, it is not good for going deep into technical documentation on service requirements. I find that I like to leverage it primarily to quickly mockup processes during whiteboarding sessions.

Blueworks Live is a hidden jewel among the IBM acquisitions. I was a user of Lombardi Blue Print before IBM acquired Lombardi and have been hooked to it since 2011. IBM has invested in it and made it better. It is invaluable and probably the most essential tool that you need to get started to document how your legacy processes actually work and get all the hidden knowledge from your SMEs into a simple to use [platform] and visualize one's own processes.

Unless the processes are documented and visualized with all the stake holders, it is often hard to come to an agreement on what one has in the organization. Only when one understands what one has in terms of process within the organization, it becomes easy to discuss the limitations and recommend solutions to address those limitations.

Blueworks Live is BPMN 2.0 compatible and can be leveraged as a starting point to embark on a "Business Process (Re-)Engineering or Modeling" program within an organization. It is quite easy to get started, offered as Software as a Service and is priced per user.
  • Document processes as Milestones and Activities, which is simple to understand even for Business Analysts or Program Managers.
  • System magically shows a visual representation of the information one puts in, in an easy-to-understand swim lane representation.
  • All attributes can easily be read in the document style representation.
  • Easy to export as a word or a powerpoint and also as a BPMN 2 file that could be integrated into one's own BPM product or directly into IBM BPM.
  • IBM should offer this solution as a complementary service for Business Partners and Customers on engagements so one could strategically document and uncover new opportunities to cross sell.
  • It could be of real value for smaller companies and more available if the price point is lower so all clients can leverage the savings and include the entire organization rather than a select few.
  • Connectors to third party would help.
It is invaluable and probably the most essential tool that you need to get started to document how your legacy processes actually work and get all the hidden knowledge from your SMEs into a simple to use and visualize ones own processes.
