Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Jira

We use Atlassian Jira to visualize the work in progress within teams, plan across teams and programs, and handling service requests from customers

Pros

  • visualizing work in progress
  • visualizing the status of the work in progress
  • handling service request tickets

Cons

  • allowing to show multiple people collaborating on a single story
  • epics sidebar should stay static when sometimes dragging stories from backlog to a particular epic, the list of epics can jump and can be difficult to get back to the epic you wanted to drag and drop a story into that epic
  • can be difficult to use a template without impacting other teams you share the same program with
  • Teams get a better view of big picture what they have accomplished
  • teams get a better understanding if they are becoming more or less effective
  • Things don't get lost between teams as easily
I think Atlassian Jira has great usability, I feel like the learning curve isn't that steep for those who don't use it as often, but there are far reaching capabilities for those who use it regularly or essentially super users. That being said you don't need to be a super user or have a deep knowledge of all the capabilities to gain value from using the tool.
Atlassian Jira is a very different tool than OpsGenie and Confluence. OpsGenie excellences in the current work in progress and visualizing the trends of how the work is getting done, but it really doesn't function as a longterm repository of a knowledgebase, instead that is Confluence. And while it does a good job with issue tracking OpsGenie is a better tool for the ops functionality of alerting team members during on call, alerts, or major incidents.

Do you think Atlassian Jira delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Atlassian Jira's feature set?

Yes

Did Atlassian Jira live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Atlassian Jira go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Atlassian Jira again?

Yes

Atlassian Jira is one of the most commonly used tools in the IT industry so most times people have previous experience with it. Atlassian Jira is really well suited for teams to visualize their work in progress and plan. We have a general way of working though that if a task is less than an hour of work we don't create a Atlassian Jira story, because the process of creating a story and getting it into progress can take more time than it's worth for someone who doesn't use Atlassian Jira as often.
