Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Automox to patch all of our workstations and servers across the enterprise. Automox helps us to reliably deliver patches to all of our systems, reduce our risk to vulnerabilities and prevent system downtime. Its automation functions allow us to easily manage a very geographically distributed IT environment that would otherwise require a lot more manpower and time with other tools.

Patching

Automox was more reliable than its competitors, we saw a drastic increase in successful patch installation. We also had increased capabilities, due to the fact that we could now reliably install 3rd party tools. Our total count of systems patched went up over 150% after purchasing Automox compared to our previous tool.

The area Automox struggles with in automation, is that their patching calendar is not aligned with "Patch Tuesday" but is a calendar month. So, we ended up having to create two patch schedules to patch systems according to our "week of patch tuesday", "week after", "2 weeks after", etc... schedules.

Usability

Automox has excellent dashboards that help to identify key performance indicators of where your patching program stands, what to prioritize, and what issues you have.

Where Automox struggles is easily identifying what issues are preventing successful patching, seeing what manual patches are successfully installing/not installing, and easily remediating issues with installation issues.

PDQ Deploy & Inventory, ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus and SolarWinds Patch Manager

Automox's reliability, dashboards, automation tools put it over the top of any other tool.

Automox is well suited for a large enterprise that has a well-defined patching policy and procedure that allows for automated patching, well defined schedules, and procedures to catch any issues that could occur during patching.

Automox because of its strong automation suite, would not work well in an Enterprise that requires manual intervention in patching or does not have a well-defined patching process.
