Overall Satisfaction with Automox

Automox solves one of the most crucial issues we ran into during our day-to-day maintenance of our endpoints. It is very important that our endpoints stay up to date with the latest version of Software patches and Windows Updates. Automox provides a centralized management point for being able to push out Software and Windows updates automatically and manually. It also provides an easy to use Activity Report and Policy Results Report that lets you view the overall health of your organization and which endpoints may be missing a patch or multiple. Automox makes it very easy to keep our endpoints up to date with Windows updates automatically and also push any manual updates we want.

Pros

  • Automatically keeps endpoints up to date using configured patch policies.
  • Easy to use interface that allows quick and easy policy creation and editing.
  • Has an extensive Script and Worklet catalog that you can choose from to do a large variety of tasks.
  • Automox has very helpful customer support with quick responses.

Cons

  • I would like to see more detailed error messages when a patch fails. Perhaps at which step it failed at, downloading, installing, etc.
  • It would be helpful if we could see what stage of installing or downloading a patch is at through a percentage or status bar instead of a vague "Installing..." message
  • It would also be helpful to have a way to kill or end scripts that are stuck instead of waiting 24 hours for them to automatically end. Something like an "End all actions" button for endpoints on our side would be extremely helpful when testing a script that had a bad line or action in it.
  • It is much easier to manage and push updates through Automox than it is through Windows Update Server. It saves a lot of times when we are trying to update endpoints.
  • In the past, we would run into numerous problems such as updating a fleet of laptops taking us around 4-5 hours. With Automox, it rarely takes longer than 1 hour to update them.
  • This has also made it so we do not have to keep Windows Updates stored in premises. This saves hundreds of gigabytes of storage on our environment. Automox takes care of storing the updates and sending them to endpoints when they need to be downloaded.
When we implemented Automox, we noticed that a lot of endpoints, especially laptops had rapidly started grabbing updates. Some of these laptops and endpoints had been multiple versions behind and this was not caught by our Windows Update Server.

Automox did need a bit of work to transition over from SCCM and Windows Updates to it. There were things left over in Group Policy and Endpoint registries that had to be changed in order for the clients to have full connectivity with Automox and the Microsoft Windows Update servers. This was expected.
Before using Automox, I did not have any experience with a patch management system of any kind. I was able to pick up Automox and start creating policies and assigning endpoints to groups very easily. One of Automox's selling points is that it is easy to use and learn. Automox will take a large amount of time to master since there are so many things it can do. However, it is easy to pick up and get going.
Previously, we used WSUS to manage our Windows Updates. WSUS was needed to be managed in-house and any issues would need to be fixed by us. This would cause us to lose hours needing to troubleshoot unexpected issues that arise and take away time from other tasks.

Automox has regular maintenance they do on their end. They are also very responsive when responding to tickets and issues that arise. They have always been happy to work with us when we put in support requests for any issues that may come up or even for any questions we have.

Automox is incredible in Medium sized businesses and organizations. It makes pushing updates and keeping endpoints up to date very easy and responsive. Automox also does a great job at keeping laptops up to date. Laptops can sometimes be a pain to manage depending on how often users turn them on and keep them on. From my experience, Automox quickly reaches out to a laptop within a minute of it being powered on and immediately starts installing updates to it. You can customize the installation and restarting messages so that the computers do not reboot in the middle of a user's work.
