Overall Satisfaction with Celoxis
We use Celoxis for managing projects in our managed services operations areas (customer-facing projects sometimes but mostly internal projects: training, infrastructure, process improvement, etc) and information security consulting. We were able to integrate Celoxis into a legacy web portal where users enter their daily timesheets. Integration was easy using Celoxis REST API. There are about 60 members of our different teams using Celoxis only through this API-enabled front-end and 10 more who actually have licenses and manage projects from Celoxis itself.
Pros
- Provides a very useful Gantt view
- Has a very customizable workflow module for developing custom applications
- Includes a powerful REST API for integration with other technologies and processes
- Has a very flexible, customizable dashboard designing capability
- Provides out-of-the box project KPIs
- Allows for managing project cost, both estimated and real
Cons
- It's GUI is not very useful on mobile devices
- Doesn't have program or portfolio management features, some can be tailored using custom attributes and workflow apps
- Some system catalogs (like customers) should be made available as custom fields
- Gantt modeling
- Project baselines and KPIS
- REST API
- Dashboards and reports
- Cost management
- In less than 3 months we got a very clear view of real effort-related project costs
- We were able to improve cost estimations for future projects
- We also got view of project and individual performance which enabled a change on how we assign objectives and evaluate performance
- After 6 months customer satisfaction saw an improvement since we were detecting anomalies in projects faster to take countermeasures
I used an evalaution matrix built with input of several stakeholders in the company. In the end the matrix included 100 features (non of them was price related). The matrix was heavily focused on waterfall project management, agile related features were only 5 out of 100 features. Features were labeled as mandatory, required or optional. Products which lacked a mandatory feature (like providing technical support) were disqualified. Then a price vs features evaluation was made and only the products with the best combination were seleced to continue: Celoxis, ITM Platform and Mission Control. A final technical evaluation was made comparing the full evaluation but also the evaluation of only the 40 required features. Overall, Celoxis was the better evaluated (76% vs 65% of the second place), for the 40 required features, Celoxis got 91% against 78% of number 2. In the end we chose Celoxis even when it had higher licensing cost.
